Somewhere on the net was a website that showed a detailed breakdown of the FED-2 and how to replace the shutter curtain and what material to use for a shutter but I can't find it. Any help? Doing a full CLA on mine soon, it's an early model with no self-timer but I've heard they are all the same for all the FEDs

Use the curtains from old Zenits or Prakticas. They fit with little adjustments only.

Buy a set on eBay. They are the correct size, use the correct material, and come with the lathes and ribbons.

Personally, if you want to keep the camera and use it a lot, I'd go for the Aki Asahi double-layer curtain material and cut new ones to an exact match against the old ones. The Asahi cloth is superb quality, I've re-shuttered 2 cameras with it and would use it again without hesitation.

I had one in FED-2, factory made, spare set, old stock, purchased from e-bay. Not good. It wasn't cut properly.
Purchased double layer material from Japan (e-bay). Fixed two Zorki with it.
Single layer would be better. Double seems to require extra tension.

There is still old stock available from Ukrain. I used that on many camera's. First ascertain whether your camera has sewn curtains or not. If they are sewn I would try to use the original laths again since in that case you don't have to replace the ribbons. Of course you can also choose to buy curtains with laths on them, but then you have to replace the ribbons as well.

I bought mine at Fedka store if you're still interested. Factory made for Fed 1-5
