Today, I shipped my M5 to Sherry... and just a few minutes ago, I purchased a BGN case for it and an EX copy of the Leica M5 instruction manual.

This camera is really getting under my skin. Soon enough I won't post here... I see it in my future... I'll be around town and campus, shooting away with the camera, and reading the manual as if it were a bible...

M5 owners are an interesting bunch ... the camera seems to have an effect that no other Leica does.

Perhaps I should have used mine more when I had it? :p

Francisco...you have a serious case of the M5s I'm afraid. Use a 50 with it first when it comes back, great 50 view from that bad boy :)

Francisco...you have a serious case of the M5s

Last I heard there was a cream for that. You rub it on the affected area (in this case, the M5) and it slowly turns into an M6...

Although what you would do if someone caught you rubbing ointment all over your M5 I do not know :p

Remember the Episode from Star Trek with the M5!

Do not wire the Phaser control into it.

Load with film, put in Button Battery with less than 1.2 Terawatts of power, take some pictures with it.

Hopefully Francisco's M5 still has a working Dialithium Crystal. Those can be pricey to replace ;)

Heck, I'm the one who needs an MRI now! :) Three days with this silly camera and I am buying accessories that I didn't bother with for my Nikon S2. And it also got sent to the mending place BEFORE the S2 (whose repair was a lot less draining, according to Pete Smith).

BTW, the dialithium works perfectly with 35mm objectives, and the polarization they create also makes a richer FOV. :)

Well, it's a Good thing that Sherry is a camera repair engineer and not a Doctor.

Come to think of it, My Leica IIIf, Nicca III, and Yashica Electro-X have radioactive sources in their lenses.

And the EP2 gets used with Calcium Fluorite Crystal lenses.

SL...you've sent it to the right person. Last year I had a telephone conversation with Sherry...and she considers the M5 the best of breed.

I am sure you will be most pleased with Sherry's work.

Episode from Star Trek with the M5 ?

Ok - found it:

""Fantastic machine, the M-5. No off switch."
- McCoy, as the Enterprise chases the Woden

Love the M5. If I ever get a M body, that's the one I want. I'd put my Summitar on there and be a happy shooting fool :)

Have fun Francisco!

My ordered accessories may come in tomorrow... and Sherry hasn't contacted me yet!

Oh, well... there are other things in life. In the meanwhile, I've been shooting with my M4-2, and contemplating the sale of my medium format gear.

One can live without an M5... as long as there are sleeping pills available! ;)

Enjoy your M5. I purchased mine shortly after Sherry CLA'd it and that was 9-10 years ago. It still looks and feels beautiful!

<whine>Camera case and M5 manual came in one piece. Then, an eyeglass protector from DAG arrived, a fresh 1.5 Volt battery, and I purchased a 35mm lens from an RFF member (coming in from Halifax). Just yesterday, a strap (nice discrete dark blue from Optech). This camera is getting more goodies than my son!

But since Sherry's not calling, I guess I'll get to have it after Halloween... Drat! </whine>

Sorry about the rant... At least, to treat the jonesing, I've been trying to get busy and thus developed some film, did some housecleaning, updated my blogs, scanned old slides and negs and did other things that please the wife and child. But then, once the camera comes and I can go out and shoot... they'll have to forget and forgive! :)

If I were not to have a colonoscopy in two days, I'd ask for suggestions, but I'll be plenty busy tomorrow...
