What did your spouse say about your digital M purchase?

I don't own a digital M, but if I bought one my wife would be (rightfully) miffed about it considering our current cashflow situation. I wouln't be impressed if she spent $2500+ on something without talking to me about it first.

My wife is very supportive of my hobby. She was the one that pushed to get the M8 as she knew how much I enjoyed RFs.... in fact she's usually the one pushing me to purchase an item I've been eyeing/reading about.

If it wasn't for my wife I wouldn't have an M9 now. When I first told her about it, she just said "get it". On the trip to Osaka to pick it up I still wasn't 100% sure I could go through with it.

After getting back to the house I was visiting with my wife while she in the 'ofuro' (Japan style bath). When she asked if I picked up the M9 I kept a straight face and said "No I'd changed my mind". Her face had such a disappointed look - she likes to see me happy. I was looking for an opening, and next she said with disappointment, "you didn't?", I had to stop playing with her, "no, I got it", and her face brightened up and said "that's more like you" - guess we're both happy :angel:

And as the photo sales person (not the same shop) said the other day when he asked about how my wife felt about getting such an expensive camera, and I told him the story - "you've got a great wife!" 😀

I sold an old Land Rover, two SLR's, a Canon G9 and a horse saddle and just had enough.

Besides, once I pointed out that her two `crapping machines` (sorry, horses) consumed in a year twice what the M8 cost, she stopped beating me over the head with a frying pan.

While my spouse has been after me all these years to get rid off the older film based equipment and to replace those with [fewer] more modern Zeiss and Leica lenses, she is very clear about how she feels about digital photography. She prefers the "natural look" of film based images.

My story... well.. I'm soon to be a M9 owner ( 2 days to go and pick it up ) and as long I dont get into debt ( apart from a credit card bill that is payable over the MAXIMUM of two months ) and also that I dont cut holidays or time together ( I live in Lisbon, she lives around 400km away, we see each other weekends and sometimes middle of the week ) , she's OK with that.

Now, during those two months or so that I have to pay the credit card bill that is maxxed out because of something photographic, I say to her once "sorry, cant take you out for dinner / theather / club because I'm broke because of something Leica" she will go beserk.

To be honest, with a good reason.

Otherwise, she is quite supportive - when the M8 came out we were touring Asia and she had her credit card blocked ( someone was doing internet fraud with it ) and took a couple of weeks for a new one to arrive, which did when we were in Singapore. Since we were using my credit card all the time, she paid me back by buying a shinny new M8 at the time. When I offer to pay ( since her part of the bills where quite lower than the M8 ) she said "I'm sure you'll make good use of it hon ".

So as long it doesnt get in front of some common household item or holiday & trip, it's fine.

I'm lucky guy 🙂 But still we shall not forget SWMBO !
