and that's good enough reason.....ain't it?But I will always return to the feeling that I take pictures because I liked what I saw.

Absolutely! That's the entire reason I will always love photography, and I don't have to explain it to anyone, because quite often I can't explain it except to say, I took this picture because I liked it!

I had a similar thought some months ago: http://lightmancer.blogspot.com/2009/06/photo-analysis.html
That is an interesting article that expresses quite some aspects I was thinking about also. A friend of mine sometimes uses the camera to confront herself with her feelings and her past in an active way. I think she is trying to express her inner state in a picture or to have something in herself mirrored in the picture. This is a very personal matter and does not have anything to do with doing professional photography for a living.
I would not say that this process is something like a self-analysis, but it may be a way to get ones thoughts and feelings a bit clearer, maybe a diary would be a good comparison.
Now, today I went out to take some photos in the street with these questions in the back of my head, but I must admit that when I took a picture, than mostly because I found the scene interesting or thoght that this and that could look good in black and white. Rather trivial. Now I am looking forward to develop the films, but I guess the camera could also be applied in a different, more subjective, personal way.

Well said. This is the antithesis of professional photography. "Amateur" does not accurately describe it either. Maybe "personal", or "introspective" is closer to the mark. A camera can be used to communicate just as a pen or keyboard can. Sometimes the communication is descriptive, sometimes discursive, sometimes autobiographical.

I think it tells me I'm obsessed with mortality and time, in a very morbid way

Chester Higgins Jr. told me that a photograph is a reflection of the photographer, something I think is true. I hope my photographs say that I'm curious about the difference between how we think the world is and the reality each of us encounters on a daily basis...

I'm not really sure what my photos say about me because my photos for the most part look like snapshots! I guess to most this speaks of having a lack of talent. I can't disagree with that, but I enjoy what I do & to me that's what matters most. I love looking at different styles of others. That's what's so great about photography everyone is so unique.

I think the wife tells me enough - about myself!...I just take pictures to record people and places, while out having fun - or sometimes making a little cash! - sorry

Artist Statement: They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but my photographs strive for more. I document life--capturing emotions and provoking thought. My pictures serve as a mirror, not only reflecting the truth in existence, but also providing the viewer a glimpse back through my lens, past the viewfinder, and straight into my spirit/soul.
I absolutely have to agree with one of my favorite actors and photographers Ryan Howard. If he's not right, who is?

I agree. There are plenty of ways of disagreeing without being rude, this forum does not need another comedian...
