What do you use to cut rolls into strips?

I have never liked scissors - a crooked cut can cost part of the negative.

Is there a simple, cheap and compact cutter I can use for 35mm and 120?

I use barber's shears -- they're so narrow I can see where I'm cutting.

Seems to me Spiratone used to sell a cutter. Adorama or B&H still might. A search at their sites or on the evilbay might help.

Less coffee might help. 😛

B&H sells a film cutter for 35mm that is very cheap and effective. Has sprocket hole gears that pull the film under a guillotine like cutter. Easy to use and not mistakes. good luck

The scissors I stole from my kindergarten teacher in...err...kindergarten... I'm careful cutting things out, and I learned the hard way to not run with them🙂.

X-acto knife and ruler. The stainless steel rulers with cork backing are the ones I use. But I'd like to have one of the purpose-made cutters with the light.

Small world! That's exactly the equipment I have used for years.
I use a scrap piece of heavy mirror glass as a cutting surface.
But what a PITA! That's why I'm looking for a simpler, easier way...

I agree.

I just did a search on B&H and the only 35mm film cutter I could find is located here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...ls&Q=&sku=20516&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

IMO, thats too much money for a tool of this task.

Ditto what GeneW said. Small barber scissors are perfect for cutting negatives. You just need a steady hand.

Say, that Gepe 35mm cutter looks good and the price is right.
I will pick one up on my next visit to B&H.

Now to find something similar for 120 film...

I have a Polaroid slide mounter (illuminated and it makes nice precise cuts) ... but usually I'm just too lazy to use it and get out the scissors.
