I have that one too (or similar)
It won't fit in my eoas adapter.
The damn thing does not screw in all the way beacuse of that black ring.
Same problem trying to use it with a Yashica/Contax adapter.
I don't know what it's meant to fit.

Same here, we have the same kind of adapters, the ones that have a little ledge to push in the stop down pin. I'll probably track down the kind without the ledge to see if it would work, but that will take time to get here. I wouldn't mind having a Praktica IV, either though..

2.8 Tessars are so warm colored, this one seems pretty neutral looking at it. I'm a fan of the Tessar.
It's an M42, not sure if that's a Paxette..

Its cosmetics lead me to believe it's very late '40s through mid '50s. Since it's m42 and conflicts with "modern" auto-diaphragm functions, I suspect it was made to fit the Contax S and/or D models:

Ah... I have that open adpater as well for m42-eos. You just reminded me. It's been permanantly mounted on a Biotar 75.
When I get home I will try it on the tessar and let you know if it works on the eos.

It's a Version of a Tessar first made in 1949 your Version was made around 1953 before that they were 3,5/5cm instead of 3,5/50mm. According to this list it will hit the mirror of an eos 5d at infinity focus http://www.panoramaplanet.de/comp/ 🙁

You won't need to shave . The aps-c model eos bodies have a smaller mirror that does not hit any of the lenses that interfer with the larger 5D mirror.
I used to have a 40D next to my 5D's and can confirm for example the Zeiss Hollywood f2/28mm.
It would hit the mirror with the 5D but not with the 40D.

The Rebel Ti was an entry level film camera, I picked up a couple to use Super Takumar 35mm f3.5's on, because I liked the lens so much. They're really inexpensive,\ and light.

Quick report for you.
The adapter works fine with the 5Dii to infinity. 🙂
Not so much on the 650 where it holds the mirror up and causes a "bc" error which requires battery removal and re-instal.
My lens is one of the 4.5/40 versions. I have both the large and same Tessar 4.5/40 in m42.
Although both have the large black retaining ring that blocks the "pin push" adapters, only the small one has an extra protrusion that interferes with the mirror.
The adapter works fine with the 5Dii to infinity. 🙂

It will work on any early M42 camera. Praktica, Contax/Pentacon, Edixa. It won't work on most cameras with an automatic aperture plunger, excepting Prakticas which allow you to disable the plunger, or Edixas with a spring loaded plunger (the plunger will make a funny p'tang sound, but causes no harm to the camera or lens).

Thank you both. I was just trying to look at pics on the internet to try to understand what f16sunshine's lenses look like on the back. I appreciate your kind assistance, Andy! I was looking at the lens earlier, and thinking despite what the panorama site says, I could probably take off enough with a file to get past a mirror. But it sounds like from what tunalegs says (thank you!), the problem is that the stop down pusher hangs up the camera because it's blocked. I that case filing won't help.
Thanks again everyone, I'll have to give this some thought. The easiest option might be to shave the mirror on an adapted EOS...

Paxette has a 39mm thread mount (but Paxette lenses won't work on LTM bodies).
I bet that this lens would work just fine on Yashica screw mount bodies, as the DX lenses protrude into the body like that.

That's a good point, Greyscale. I do have a 50 f1.7 DX (nice lens!) that hangs the mirror in my spotmatics when at infinity, but they fire when focused closer. I've been poking around here, thinking it might be a good idea to remove the stop down mechanism from a spotmatic*, there are plenty of service manuals about. But the Yashica is a good tip, it's just that the stop down might be the problem there too, rather than the mirror..

Your lens might be OK on a Fujica. I own this 58mm f/2 Biotar with a similar difficulty:
The lens would interfere with the mirror on several cameras I tried it on; Pentax ESII, adapted to an Elan IIe, and on a Pentax K10d. I did try it on a Fujica ST605n and, I think it was OK...at least I don't remember having any issues with the lens. The camera, sadly, had its own troubles.
