What ei for Neopan 400 (Legacy Pro) ?

Hi,

I snapped 1 roll of APX400 and a roll of Legacy Pro 400.

Both were rated at box speed, I used a Leica C3 Zoom as the P&S camera.

I developed both in XTOL. For APX400, the information wasn't clear on 1+1, scouring the net, I found a 12min time and I developed XTOL 1+1 in a 300ml final solution for 12mins and 15 second.

For LegacyPro, I followed the massive dev chart which suggested 9.75mins and I developed XTOL 1+1 in a 300ml final solution for 10mins and 15 second.

Observation of the results: APX 400 yielded more shadows than Legacy Pro. Assuming that exposures were consistent with the P&S camera metering, I conclude that I over-developed in Legacypro.

The overdevelopment could be due to:

* 9mins 45seconds suggested by Massive Dev is too generous
* I over agitated, instead of 30s initial agitation and 5 sec agitiation every 30 seconds thereafter, I chose to be consistent with my process: 60s initial agitation and 5 sec agitiation every 30 seconds thereafter
* I developed at 10m 15 seconds instead of 9m 45seconds as suggested.

Next 4 examples are from LegacyPro 400:

Most of the LegacyPro looked very much like LegacyPro Image no. 2 (third image from the top of this post) and Last image.

In my next Legacy Pro shoot, I will either rate it at 600 or/and I will undervelop the films.

Your comments are most welcomed!

Since I was using a P&S camera today with automatic DX detection, I could not set the ISO. I underdeveloped the film from 9min45secs to 9mins and agitiation was now halved: Initial agitation with 20 inversions in 30 secons, and subsequent 1 inversion every 30 seconds.

I noticed that most of the pictures had more shadow now. But it looks like I had a loss of resolution (as compared to the APX400 pics), this could be imaginary or a handshake problem. But something worth checking out in the next roll.

"Juxtaposition" Shot using the P&S C3, Cropped and Resized.

* I noticed the problem is focusing .... Need to use the Infinity Setting in the camera Menu *
