Okay, it's a given that if you frequent a site like this one that you're heavily into photography. It is certainly my number one passion besides of course my family. (in case my wife reads this)
But what else do you find interesting/exciting in life? It might be nice to get to know eachother a bit more since we seem to be spending a lot of time together here!
For me it is motorcycling and the satisfaction of maintaining my own bikes. I have 2 older BMW bikes, an R90/6 and an R100/7, made in 1976 and 1981 respectively. In a way they are similar to the kind of cameras I like best, mechanical, metal, and manual. They are built to engineering standards rarely seen these days. Canging oils, adjusting valve clearances, bleeding brake lines, and trying to get those 2 carbs balanced are hands-on and (usually) enjoyable (when approached with the correct attitude. ) Then there is the whole other aspect of the enjoyment of riding. Feeling the vibrations of the mechanics, the throb of the exhaust, and the wind in your face. (although I wear a full-face helmet) I've been on a couple of longer trips lasting 10 days/2 weeks, from Ontario to West Virginia and another to P.E.I. There is something cool about setting out on a longer journey knowing that you won't be heading back for home later that day. It makes me appreciate home all the more. Camping (with the odd motel along the way) gets you closer to the land, just as being out in the wind instead of sitting in a small moving room intensifies the travelling experience.
The great thing for me is that I can combine my 2 passions by taking pictures along the way! Photography is the #1 passion for me, and motorcycling is #2. What's your #2?
