Canada, eh.
Okay, it's a given that if you frequent a site like this one that you're heavily into photography. It is certainly my number one passion besides of course my family. (in case my wife reads this)
But what else do you find interesting/exciting in life? It might be nice to get to know eachother a bit more since we seem to be spending a lot of time together here!

For me it is motorcycling and the satisfaction of maintaining my own bikes. I have 2 older BMW bikes, an R90/6 and an R100/7, made in 1976 and 1981 respectively. In a way they are similar to the kind of cameras I like best, mechanical, metal, and manual. They are built to engineering standards rarely seen these days. Canging oils, adjusting valve clearances, bleeding brake lines, and trying to get those 2 carbs balanced are hands-on and (usually) enjoyable (when approached with the correct attitude. ) Then there is the whole other aspect of the enjoyment of riding. Feeling the vibrations of the mechanics, the throb of the exhaust, and the wind in your face. (although I wear a full-face helmet) I've been on a couple of longer trips lasting 10 days/2 weeks, from Ontario to West Virginia and another to P.E.I. There is something cool about setting out on a longer journey knowing that you won't be heading back for home later that day. It makes me appreciate home all the more. Camping (with the odd motel along the way) gets you closer to the land, just as being out in the wind instead of sitting in a small moving room intensifies the travelling experience.

The great thing for me is that I can combine my 2 passions by taking pictures along the way! Photography is the #1 passion for me, and motorcycling is #2. What's your #2?

Cooking, in general. It is the fall, so I have started this year's wine batch, that is cooking to me too. This year I should get about 7 or 8 cases of a nice Zinfandel Syrah blend. Winter Sundays normally find me inspired and feeling really Italian in my kitchen. Garlic, olive oil, red wine, fresh bread... it doesn't get any better!

hey frank,

i used to ride bike also. i started with a little 400 suzuki and moved on to a honda 650 silverwing. i did an edmonton to new york city (& back) trip with that one. it was a fantastic adventure.
i have done other shorter trips also but that was the best. of course i was younger then.

i actually 'found' this site because i used to spend more time on one of jorge's other sites about home theatre. it got kinda strange there because of disrespectful people trashing each other for sport.
anyway, home theatre is another interest of mine. i have a small room dedicated to it. a crt tv, 6 speakers, including subwoofer, comfortable chair and i'm in for the winter.

i also write poetry, but i have to be in the mood/groove/zone to make that work for me.

other than that, it's just me and the dog.

Cooking, 19th century novels, struggling with the guitar, fountain pens (oddly enough, when my wife and I had to live in different states, my pen collection grew because I was writing letters almost every day), and, for a short time, watches.

But the one hobby I want to return: collecting die-cast models. I like them in 1/48 scale, but have no objection to larger reproductions. My dream: a 1958 Opel Kapitan made by Revell. 🙂

Though I am temporarily in retirement, I love mountaineering and rockclimbing. I miss the days of cruising up the worlds granite walls. Still purchase the monthy climbing publications. Have a couple of way-cool slide shows of climbs I was on. Good ol' Kodachrome 64 & a good P & S camera....

I do a lot of reading and a fair bit of writing -- magazine assignments for pay and personal essays for pleasure. Am currently re-reading some Charles Dickens. My reading tastes are broad -- novels (older and contemporary), poetry, philosophy, science.

I also play guitar (6- and 12-string), 5-string banjo and bass guitar. I was in a folk trio called Olde Spyce and we did gigs at a couple folk festivals and other places. Unfortunately my day job got in the way and we disbanded except for occasional get-togethers to jam.

Photography, reading, writing, music -- my four long-standing passions. Been doing all of them for some forty years or more ...

Cycling, I enjoy cooking too (mainly baking rustic loaves of bread, I was going to go to culinary school but life had other plans), Fly-Fishing. I am currently in school so most of my interests are on the back burner.

Sport, reading and music in that order.

In sport I love football, rugby and track & field and have played them all for many years. Born and raised in Manchester I supported Sale and worshipped at the cathedral in Old Trafford when I was a boy. Today Wayne Rooney played his first game for the club and scored a hat-trick in a 6-2 thrashing of Fenerbahce in the CL. We are back!

I love to read novels. I find a writer in the bookstore and if I like the first book then I read more. My last two books were VS Naipaul's Enigma of Arrival and A House for Mr. Biswas.

I like all kinds of music, but I'm passionate about the blues and classical music. Both my parents and and my children were/are musicians and my kids will play at a high level for the rest of their lives. They have traveled all over the world playing in school and youth orchestras and ensembles.

I currently have a wonderful opportunity to combine photography with my love for music. I've started on a three-year project with a Boston youth orchestra to photograph the kids arriving, in the lobby, in rehearsals, snack-time, concerts, in fact just about everywhere. The goal is to create a visual exhibit for their 50th anniversary season that will hopefully communicate what it means to play great music.

I'm not heavily into hobbies beyond photography, but I enjoy traveling, reading, listening to classical and Latin American music (Andean, Brazilian, Caribbean, Mexican, etc.), and cycling - I recently bought a new Specialized Crossroads Deluxe bike and am having fun with it.

Aside from photography, I'll pass the time...

Chasing my 10 month old, road biking around the Shawangunks and Catskills, college football Saturdays, chasing the 10 month old, free-lance writing, more chasing the 10 month old, reading about photography and how to catch the 10 month old, tinkering with old compact rangefinders and selling some of them on Ebay to finance a wicked Voigtlander addiction this place caused, chasing the 10 month old and a new hobby - the day trip.

My family never took those little one day trips anywhere - my wife's did, so she's started to get me into them. They fit hand in hand with photography - took the R2 to the Catskill Game Farm and the Saugerties Garlic Festival this weekend and had a great time. New hobby is born.

Though photography is my favorite hobby, I've got two other interests. One is slotracing. For those not in the know, that's racing two cars on a track guided by a slot. Most of us must have had that when we were young, I just didn't grow over it.

The other interest was building scale ornithopters. They don't work but they just serve artistic purposes. Trouble is the kids got to them, so none are left except for the photographs I took of them..

Other than photography I am into international chess, classical music and spending time with my family.

BMW cars. I have a 1985 635 and I'm in the process of getting a 1970 2800CS.

Ug! I really, really tossed around the idea of one. I love those so much! The deal on the 2800 was just too good to pass up. Nice car, though. Maybe afte I get the 2800 and my wife starts talking to me again, I'll think about the 2002 as my daily driver 🙂
