What filter size for a 1960s 50/2 Summicron

Just got a 35/2.8 Summaron (1966) and camera coming with a 60s 50/2 Summicron. The Summaron has a 39mm filter size and since I will be getting a filter for the Summicron, is it also 39mm?

Yes its 39mm the same filter.

Confirmed. I have a 1961 50mm Summicron by my side at the moment. 39mm filter on the front.

If you buy two Wetzlar E39 Leitz chrome filters, then you will find, that they both look exactly like a part of the original lens. Everything matches exactly to a tee. And they perform just great, too.

That's my intent as I think the ribbed edges will "blend" into the lens. I see used ones that specifiy UV or UVa. What's the difference?

I don't think there probably is a difference. The Leitz designation is e39 UVa.

All Summicrons 50, as all Summarons 35 and Summicrons 35 have a 39 mm filter size.

...and when you put on the clip-on hood, whichever variant of it that you may have, the filter rim will be hidden away from curious eyes anyway. To be correct you'll need to find the flared hood, not the later reverse flare models with cut-outs.
