It's the "from the inside" that bothers me. HHPhoto shows up in the midst of this with an insider view of the german film industry. Just wondering what his connection to that industry actually is.

I believe he mentioned he lives in the area. Why does it bother you?
If he does work in the industry, why would you distrust him, rather then someone with no connection with or unique knowledge of the subject?
I think post Number 31 inclines me to trust his view, rather more than others who prefer to berate us, rather than inform us.

That is no inside view - pretty much everything he said is public knowledge on German photo forums and silver photography SIG's. Both Maco and Fotoimpex are deeply rooted and well represented there.

A sample of well-founded opinions:
anyone can be wrong - especially if their knowledge is not from the inside, but comes from Mr Google. But it would be easier to backtrack if one were not so boorish in the first place. This is just the Internet. It's not worth being so nasty, especially when you don't know what you're talking about.
I don't find it difficult to admit I was wrong at all. But consider what I've admitted - that Agfa does indeed make color print film, which I had not seen. I now freely admit I was wrong, they do indeed make it.
I have not admitted that the film coating facilities which formerly belonged to AgfaPhoto are now in the hands of Inoviscoat, because the news reports and press releases from the South Korean firm that bought the equipment say the opposite. I have no reason to believe any RFF member statements to the contrary which are not backed up with news links or links to company news releases. Inoviscoat itself lists nothing like that on their website except the photographic paper production.
Perhaps it is true that Inoviscoat is about to begin producing film. If so, I have suggested, and continue to suggest, that if and when we see it, then it will be a fact. Until then, it is speculation. Others here claim to have knowledge of the principals involved in this scheme, and they very well may, so my knowledge may be incomplete. But since I do not possess that information myself, believing it without further evidence would be illogical. Furthermore, I am quite aware that companies often announce that they are going to do thus and so and then never do it. So what some employee of Inoviscoat told some RFF member who then posted it here is not what I would call a good logical basis for belief. I certainly believe the RFF member was told it, I don't doubt that, but I continue to harbor doubts that it will come to pass.
And as I have said - rudely - in the past; let's wait and see. If the film materializes, you will see a prompt and public apology from me for doubting. If not, I very much doubt I'll see anyone who claimed it was a done deal apologizing, because most people just don't have the stones to admit when they're wrong.
And finally, Mister Paul. As much as I appreciate your taking the time to go through all my old posts to dig out various rude things I have said, you are wasting your time. I am what I am, and that's not going to change. Get used to it, complain to the management, put me on ignore, or go away. I don't care which, and I won't stop being who I am because you find me objectionable.

I still buy Rodinal from Freestyle in Southern CA (I think they have APX100). I hope that product stays. ...
It's easy enough to mix up rodinal from the raw indgredients.

The work of a moment. You are what you are: wrong, and proud of it.
And no, I won't go away, no matter how loud and boorishly you shout. If you were polite, decent, or well-informed, I wouldn't bother to comment, would I?
Goodnight.

These Hollywood studios, which are making full digital movies, make all their long term security copies on film. It is about factor 5 - 10x cheaper than digital long term storage. And more safe.
Very true. If you actually like *working* with film, come to LA! I look at the studio job boards all the time here, and there are frequently openings for archivists, conversion specialists, re-mastering for Blu-Ray, etc. If you've got a frame on film and the technology changes 10 years from now, drag out the reel, scan it again, and voila - you've got your new hi-def content. Just have to be careful that your warehouse doesn't burn down like the one at Universal did about a year and a half ago. (at least those were mainly copies...)
This doesn't even count the people who still actually shoot on film, which are becoming fewer and fewer each day because of the cost and time, but they're still out there too.

You can come, go, lay, or pray, as you wish. I meant only that you're wasting your breath complaining to me of my boorishness, because I won't change.

Easy for a chemist like you to say, what about us that are chemically challenged. But I will learn if it come to that. Or maybe come the AZ and have you do it. If that was a offer.

Bothers you, why?
I'm just glad that German still have a film manufacturing industry that is about to market freshly coated films. How can that info be bad if it's true?

Jan,
What will the AP400 be branded as? Agfa APX 400 or Rollei Retro 400 etc...
I need to look out for this....
Dear Mike,
due to Mirko Böddecker of Adox it will be branded as Adox AP 400.
Rollei-Film already offers a new 400 speed BW film: Rollei Retro 400S. The "S" is important, because it is a different film compered to Rollei Retro 400 (without "S").
The new Rollei Retro 400S is one of Agfa-Gevaerts aerial films. The spectral sensivity is different compared to the APX 400 (Retro 400) emulsion (extended red sensivity).
And it is coated on PET base.
Best regards,
Jan

Exactly.
And some reports in german newspapers and photo magazines. And direct talk at photo fairs with the people involved in these new developments.
And I have visited the locations (not far away from me).
Best regards,
Jan
