What happened to CRR Luton Leica in the UK?

Can anyone in the UK tell me what`s up with CRR Leica Services in Luton?

I`ve written them now several times with their new email posted and it gets bounced back as unkown address etc.

I was trying to write them about a vulcanite and paint job, anyone know what the current satus of that company is and who here at the RFF has had cameras restored by them in the past?

I have have had a total restoration of a IIIf and lenses serviced and restored by CRR - the quality of work is superlative. But - as very often stated in threads like this - e-mails tend to get lost in the system. The answer is simply to phone - Peter is immensely helpful.

I agree, I had my M3 rf mirror rebuilt a couple of years ago, and the speed and standard was superb, including replacing the original 'L' wax seal, and adjusting shutter speeds, which i had not specifically paid for. work that Leica would have not done, as their motto is to replace the whole rf unit.

Give them a call.

As others have said you must phone Peter.

He is quite prepared to discuss a job at length though I suspect he finds himself wasting a lot of time with callers who never send him the work in the end.

His work is simply excellent and and the turnround times are much better than the website might imply.

I'm waiting to afford an overhaul of my M2, so it's in perfect usable condition - I feel bad it's slugging away without a good cleaning - with all the referrals, I'd not hesitate to send to Peter.


I had contacted him and planned to get a IIIc restored (rf etc) but sold the camera in the end. Shame.


Call him, you've got nothing to lose but 10 minutes on the dog and bone 🙂

Ohhh geee someone just offered me an (original?) early 1960`s Black Paint M3 this past weekend.....hmm I really don`t want a M3 but when I see a camera like yours then the desire comes back!

I`m curious to talk to Peter about the "Grey" paintjobs for the 1940`s IIIC`s

I have NEVER seen anyone restore a Grey camera properly so that would be interesting to see how good the quality is from his shop

There was a man in Scotland who restored Leica`s in the 1960`s (I don`t recall his name now, I have it someplace) and his restorations were known all over the world as the best of the best as good as the factory finishesm but and now here comes the but.....he had such a hard time reproducing the original "Grey" wartime Leitz paint that he CANCELED all further restorations of Grey paint cameras, I never heard if he ever started doing them again in the 1970`s?

Thanks to everyone for the response, I`ll give him a call sometime soon and ask what he can do about the wartime Grey`s

Peter has recently painted a IIIc (4XXXXX) black for me while doing a CLA on it.

The original knobs and vulcanite were in good condition so the result is really fantastic.

I had originally wanted this done to a IIf black dial but he dissuaded me since he felt that these were starting to become uncommon.

I would have thought that the grey cameras are so rare that they would lose value when cosmetically restored but I know very little about the production numbers.

They have a problem withtheir server, phone instead. I have just had a Summarit and 2.8 Elmar returned, both looking like new. Superb attention to detail; Peter
serviced my M3 and 111c and replaced lots of things, so I recommend him. Had a great chat about Morgans too. Ian.

I had an friend in Munich who owned a 1960`s one we used to tear around town with it in mid December with the top down and bomber jackets and scarfs on....people thought we were nutz, we were! 😛

The best way to contact Peter is by phone. Before I also tried to email him and got no reply, since he seems to have some technical difficulties with his email. But he sure answers the phone immediatly.
My M2 is with him these days for CLA and shutter replacement. God, I'm excited to get it back, all cleaned, lubed and well adjusted...
