Hi all, I was just on the first day of a trekking tour in the Italian alps, when at some point I noticed that there was some sort of thin black felt-like strippage (??) coming out from beneath the counter-dial. It would move together with the counter and was easily torn apart. Some weeks later there appeared more black felt-like stuff which has now disappeard (I presume it broke off). I had been in very light rain shortly before the first incident and had whiped it off with a towel (and had seen nothing at the time).

So, although as far as I know, the camera works just as usual, I have to wonder what that black felt from beneath the shot counter was, what it is/was good for and whether I should feel any need for a CLA due to this; which is of course the reason why I offer my story to this esteemed forum.

Please excuse my English and thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙂

The black felt is to protect the film counter from rubbing up against the top-plate of the body. Mine is also loose - it just means the glue that originally held it in place is losing its adhesiveness. It's nothing that should negatively affect the camera, as far as I'm aware!
