Yes, I'm late for the "Stammtisch".

- 1623, Schickard (for Keppler): built a machine that could add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- 1674 Leibniz (also known for logarithm tables and the invention of the life insurance 🙂): builds machines for the same operations using binary number representations.
- 1838 Babbage: builds a machine that uses punching cards.
I miss punching cards ....

LOOP said:Bien , à mon avis ce forum est un des meilleurs ! Malheureusement uniquement en anglais. Un forum en français ou en italien serait plus "artistique" moins toucé par le matérialisme que véhicule l'anglais !
This Forum is still a good one, but only english speaking, so more on material, than art.
Arty feeling is french or italian. Sorry to say that. It is horrible to be obliged to accept english language domination.
Plus sérieusement, look at a Varex IIa and compare it to a Canon 350, even the camera now do not give you the same feeling. Respect to engineer makink VXIIa less for the one making Canon.... That is another reason for the bad feeling around photography these days ...

it's easy to criticize...but rise to the standard that dmr has set and tell us, not what you want, but what you think a great site looks like.
and then help us build it.

Of course there is a minority of members who feel that this not enuff for them, and from time to time somebody is causing excitement by saying it publicly.
No use to say it tho, the concept is as it is and so it attracts mainly hardware focussed folks , the list owner won't change the concept, it all runs perfectly as he wants it to run.
So puttin up threads like this will best case ( as it happens here) slip away into neutral meaningless after having been carefully torpedoed by small-talk blahah in one-line and chat-style OT posts, or it will end as one of the many overheated and finally closed and deleted posts.
So take from this forum what you find nice , and if you find it's too little and not worth to deal with simply go elsewhere, there are alternative places. To complain is a waste of time, you won't chaneg the owners idea of his forum.
These are my personal conclusions tho, you may have a different sight ?

For you, as a member of the "first generation", it must look even more dull I suppose.
You have helped to build the fabulous RFF Image with thousand of posts,as many others did, and now the image is there and the forum is over the hill , which imeans it is big enuff to look attractive for private and commercial sponsors.
That makes the old in-group of the founder generation beeing an superfluos element, doesn't it ? That's the way it always runs with forums, as far as I could observe it. And THAT is the real change here, not some technical details.
I'll take what I like, and leave the rest, which has gotten bigger tho during that short time since I joined 🙁

to compare this site with ebay is just ludicrous.
they get more hits in an hour than we do all day.
i things are looking up myself...
