The Voigtlander 35mm f2.0 ASPHERICAL VM Vintage was announced and started shipping out several weeks ago but I've been surprised that there is very little online review/feedback on it online - apart from a few postings on here and flickr.

Is this lens just not popular because it's just another 35mm lens that is not unique in any way from others in the marketplace? - just curious about the silent treatment for this new lens.

The official name of the lens is Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical.
You may have found these threads below if you searched for Aspherical rather than ASPH 😉

Or did you find those threads and were expecting more? It is a new lens... takes time for the word to get out and reviews to happen. And as you noted there is certainly no shortage of 35mm lenses already.

Yesterday my copy of the new Ultron arrived finally.

*Fun mode on*

Unfortunately they sent me the version with focus tab for Erik 😀 ...

O.k. I used a rubber focus tab from a 7Artisans lens which I did not use with the tab.
It is self adhesive an be removed without any signs of use ...

The new Ultron 35 f2 is really tiny.

Compared to my Summaron 35 f2.8

Compared to the "Big brother" Ultron 35 f1.7

PS: Bigger pictures are not allowed for upload, sorry ...

Dude. Not nice to get me excited like that! For about 15 seconds I thought my lens dreams came true..... but not quite.

So, how does the lens handle with the 7a tab on it? Probably much nicer than with that stick thing. 😉

I have this sticky on j-12. To be honest it isn't much diffrent from the stick on 28 1.9.
Both are not as good as tab on my Summarit 35, but absolutely usable without any issues.

I have been using this lens for about 2/3 weeks now on m2, m262 and adapted on sony a7 - The size is great, the focus knob is actually handy and works well on the small lens. Aesthetically, the chrome ring finish is a little too *blingy* for my taste but I can live with it.
Colors and rendering is great. I've noticed a bit of distortion on it but I don't shoot architecture so it's not a deal breaker. It saved me some extra money from getting a 35mm summicron .

You're right!
I don't have any problem with the stick, as I know it from my former ltm lenses (skopar 35 etc.)
But the tab is surely a bit better and one can buy it on eBay or even at B&H for a small amount ...

After some days of use, I'm starting to love my new tiny gem!
The bokeh seems to be a bit more nervous compared to my Ultron 35 f1,7 but beside this it is a great lens for me.

I didn't have a problem with the stick, but now the 7artisans tab feels great.
It's more soft, but not less comfortable for focusing as my beloved Skopar 50 f2.5 LTM and otheres with plastic tabs.

So I can really recommend buying the 7artisans tab for tab lovers 😉

The tab looks great! Why didn't those guys at Cosina ... But I still hate the shiny bayonet on the front. No Ultron f/2 for me.

Erik.

I hate the way it looks like it was made from random left over pieces lying around the shop. How many different types of finishes can they incorporate on one lens?
Shiny chrome. Matt black. Gloss black. Matt silver...

Love the size of it. But seriously, shiny chrome around the front of the lens is the worst idea ever, for any lens. Why do you think lens hoods are matt/flat black?

I could't agree more. Examples enough of fine looking 35mm lenses: 35mm f/2.8 Summaron and 35mm f/2 Summicron v1. Just make a lens exactly look like these, but then in black paint on brass. Is that so hard? Cosina can do it, see the Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.5 LTM.
