What have you lost, did you ever find it again, how devastated were you?

A couple of lost photo opportunities.
A really cool old building, went back a few days later and it had been knocked down.
A double wide trailer next to a gas station in AR that was obviously a whorehouse, with a few girls hanging around outside. Now I can't remember where it's located.
I'm not that busy, so I get pissed at myself when I don't take the time, or turn around,or ask permission....

Hmmm, I had this 36 exp length of negatives but couldn't find the scanner, following redecoration; found the scanner and couldn't find the neg's. 4 months later I'm still looking...

Mostly I lose track of what I'm supposed to be doing. And then I also forget where I've stashed something. I know I've got a certain filter, or hood, but their not in the box they are supposed to be in. And there are some cameras I've misplaced around here.

I know as much as I leave purchases at the counter, or walk out of the abode without something I was going to bring with me, that sooner or later, I'm going to leave a camera bag behind somewhere. I'm pretty sure that will screw my day.

When my older daughter was 2 years old (she is now 26) we made our first long trip to the US (6 weeks vacation !).
We were in a river in Ohio taking a bath on a hot cooking day and my daughter fell into some kind of sink hole. She basically disappeared in mudy waters. I plunged and found her back after some time.
I've been through scary moments in my life, including receiving a missile while flying a military aircraft but the disappearance of my daughter was certainly the scariest.
With less importance I lost my Leica M6 and 35mm Cron during a party in the UK (that was the annual meeting of the National association of street clubs NASC). I was actually drunk and returning to my tent and just dropped the camera near the tent and forgot about it.

The next morning I was awaiken by the early sun and started looking for my M6 inside the tent: nada !
I rushed out and found it about 10 feet from the tent, all covered with morning condense.
Luckily no one grabbed it before I did :angel:

Leave a bag behind! I know someone who did that. The man was a carpenter/builder and he made a beautiful case to hold lots of Leica gear. He left the zoo in Chicago and stopped to take a pic and left the case on the sidewalk. He did get a phone call for a ransom in exchange to be traded in some dodgy location. The insurance offered to pay, but the location was scary. Gone were several Leica SLs and 6 or 8 lenses. He never saw them again.
