What hood for Summaron 2.8/35?

12585. It says 35/2.8 on it and is window'ed.

+1 for the IROOA. It's the hood contemporaneous with the 2.8/35 Summaron. Good luck. you can return items to KEH if you don't like them.

As an aside, the Summaron's front element is so deep-set you really don't have to have a hood in many situations. What a lens!

I've shot about 3 rolls, and I'm loving it! Even without the hood.

Deep-set indeed. I have IROOA, two ITDOO, and none of them get any use. Mine you, the Summaron will flare obscenely if the sun is angled just right...

these hoods have become very expensive in these days. I also seldom bring any of my original leica hood out.
 
I was wondering if any square hoods (Such as the 12524 or 12526) could fit the Summaron? Been googling for results but so far only one person had tried it.

Any idea?

I just checked. 12524 mounts successfully onto a Summaron 35/2.8, but the alignment tab doesn't connect to anything, so the orientation will drift. In addition, the aperture markings are almost completely obscured, and the ring is hard to grip. Finally, do you really want to mount a chintzy bit of black plastic in front of your satin chrome baby? 🙂

Hi, I have been using the Summaron 2.8 with the rectangular 12524 for several months now. (I agree with the above posters that the front element is well recessed. I only use the hood in these scenarios: when I have yellow (or red etc.) filter mounted, and when I am out in the rain.

It is true that the 12524 and 12526 will rotate on the lens, since the Summaron does not have the corresponding cutout. However, I find this to be a very minor problem. I tried to get the lens to vignette with a purposely "angled" shade... could not get it to vignette, at least I could not spot any undue influence because of the shade.

I do not find this to be a great bother, I can see the setting allright. I readily admit that operationg the aperture is a bit hampered by the shade, but not by much. (For me.)

I also had an IROOA, but sold it and kept the rectangular shade, purely personal/subjective choice.

So I think it is worth a try, I am not on the lookout for anything else - but it is possible that you won't be happy with one of the rectangular shades, and will prefer the IROOA etc. like Leica intended 🙂

Thank you gents for the fast responses! I think I might consider the 12524 hood for the summaron. The IROOA and 12585 are really great choices too!

The only factor now that is putting me aside is whether the 12524/12526 hood might drop off if it is bumped against something?
