What if I don't have my R-D1s for a few weeks

I don't bring my camera to work, otherwise I always have it with me. My R-D1s goes for a trip to England, what should I do in the mean time?

Return to film and buy a Bessa R or later model to fill your soul necessities.
I use to do it in this way.

Why England? Epson repaired mine in the US in less than 2 weeks (under warranty)...

Absolutely agree that you should consider picking-up a Bessa to fill in the RD-1 downtime. Or, how about a useable M2? (As opposed to a collectible sample.)

Glad that Robert White's team have been able to help you with the repair. Robert's shop is my favourite - it's like having a cozy, local store anywhere you are. They are so knowledgable, helpful, polite, and trustworthy.

I am interested to hear of the results of your sending the camera to Epson. As I mentioned, yesterday, one of my units should rightly be serviced, before it's too-late.
(When these cameras become irrepairable, I'll need bereavement counselling.) Please post details of the repair outcome, if you have time.

Hope your Epson is soon back in eager hands, and pointing towards all the shiny, optimistic faces of your 'crew'.

Thanks for the replies.

I will keep the forum updated on the repair progress. My Epson is not under warranty. Should I send it for repair in the states even if I bought it from Robert White?
I haven't used film since the 6th grade.
A Bessa R sounds good, I held an M3 a month ago, and got a major GAS attack. Eventually I calmed down. I know the Bessa fits with my budget, but I feel Leica calling. I kind of want an M4-P but then I think that I want a built in light meter. Any other input would be much appreciated. For stealth reasons I do want a black camera. .

Send it for repair and get a black Bessa R or even a R2, the feeling is more close to the R-D1, has a light meter and is not so expensive.
For me to have all the time a camera with me is special, so, I do not think you need to spend more money in a used Leica, if the priority is just enjoy to take pictures and feel confidence every moment.

Wonderful!!! Nothing can fill the space of your R-D1 for sure, but the waiting time will be better having the Bessa R with you, I'm sure about it! 😉
