To be fair, there are a lot of people who are obsessive about buying things new, and would never touch used gear. I don't get the sentiment, but I've seen it often.

Who said anything about an AE rangefinder? Are you kidding?
That would have to be a new design, from the ground up, since Nikon never had a meter in their rangefinders, much less an AE mode. Secondly, a new mount, since F-mount goes out the window, and a whole new line of lenses. So you're suggesting a vastly smaller volume on the film camera production line, basically a boutique item, designed from scratch with a new line of lenses...for $1200? Not gonna happen.
About the only way any of this craziness makes sense is if they reuse the F-mount line of lenses, though again, where is the money in that since few will be buying new lenses? Instead of using what they have?
If they remade / reissued an old classic 35mm film SLR with F-mount and priced it at $1499, how many do you actually think would sell? My guess is 500 tops.

You forget that without this 'foolishness' you couldn't buy a used M2/3/4/6 nowadays because at some point in the past people were 'foolish' enough to pay a lot of money when they were new. Besides, without this 'foolish' behaviour a lot of companies (and jobs btw.) wouldn't exist any more. So you should better think twice before you call this people foolisheven when I get your initial thought especially when comparing the M2 with the M-A.
Coming back to the topic, I doubt that Nikon or Canon will ever produce film cameras again, but I wouldn't be surprised if Nikon comes sooner or later with a RF styled Z6/7. probably inheriting some design elements from the Nikon S.

It would be very cool to have new options for real rangefinders with optical veiewfinder/rangefinder.
Also for digital cameras, it would be nice to have an alternative to Leica.

They spoiled many Nikon collections. The value of a black Nikon SP or S3 before the reissues was incredible. I've heard of prices of $150.000 for a black motorized Nikon SP.
The only black Nikon rangefinder that still is rare, is the S2. But even that one came down in price.

That's a cornerstone of the OP's proposal. It has to be a RF.
Earlier (much earlier, like 8 or 9 pages ago), I suggested maybe they should just ask Cosina to re-start production of the FM10. OP said no, it has to be a RF.
Hey, since we're wishing for crazy, pie-in-the-sky silly stuff, maybe this new camera can use the same lenses as the ones for the new Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras? That way maybe they'll sell a few more lenses without cannibalizing sales of an existing system, and they won't have to tool up to make SC-mount lenses any more.

Right, I was just trying to follow his logic (or lack thereof) from the previous question about an FM2...
I thought about the mirrorless lenses, with regard to a new film camera. That would imply autofocus, and how would you frame the image without an EVF? Of course then it wouldn't be a real rangefinder either, but more of a successor to the Contax G line perhaps.

What’s potentially realistic is an RF-style Z camera, ala the Fuji X-E series. Of course, it only works with notfilm.😀

Make it m-mount and Release a limited run of nikon-s formula lenses in m mount. Heck, let cosina make them, a few thousand for the collectors. The shooters can use any m mount lens they want.

Dear Board,
One pipe dreamer has generated 10+ pages? OK, maybe 6 1/2 , or 7, because he's wasted no time in telling everyone who disagreed with him just how wrong they are while offering absolutely no proof.
If there was a market for a 35mm film rangefinder it would be exploited, or at least attempted to be exploited by some manufacturer. It's not happening, because there is no market.
Until all currently usable 35mm film rangefinders are dead there is no chance of anyone introducing one to the market. It's far more easy to get people to buy $ 600.00 cell phones than it ever will be to get people to buy a $ 600.00 35mm rangefinder camera. Never mind that a new 35mm rangefinder would be well north of a gee whizz, body only.
If wishes were fishes I'd have my own TV fishing show!

I think we could see a new film model again, but it won`t be a rangefinder from Nikon or Canon. We will see another film rangefinder again too... but most likely just another iteration of a model we already know.

I was just thinking...out of all the cameras I have owned not a single one..digitals included..did I buy new! So if someone does make a new film rig I can confidently say I won't be a customer.
