What is going on with this Portra 160?

Granted this shot is underexposed, but I've never seen anything like the "Kodak 12/ Kodak 9" that's visible in the background of this shot. Any idea what it is (middle of the frame on the left hand side)?

How old is the film? Kodak was having a lot of problems with their backing paper in 2017, so maybe it is a batch from that?

Also, was the red window uncovered? Some black tape over the red window might help, particularly if the backing paper is defective.

Looks like it was shot on a Mamiya 7ii, no red window.

I see numbers on the right side, and in the top center of the frame as well. This was a known problem with several batches of Tri-X and TMax a year or so ago, I don't recall seeing any mention of this regarding Portra before. If this was new film, I would suggest contacting Kodak at profilm@kodakalaris.com about this, including the film batch number in your email.

Interesting. I'm not seeing anything on the other frames from the roll. It's from a batch that expired 10/16, so it's definitely a bit older.

yeah. You can see this when you push the negative. Underexposing really shows the backing paper. It's a known issue with kodak and the backing papers. Something that has to do with the dyes used in the paper transferring over to the film.
