Dateline: A CITY
In another street photography tragedy, the brief but spectacular career of noted photographer Joe Cool ended today under the wheels of a Route 38 bus. Prudence Helps, aged 87 and one of the "bright young things" of the sidewalk photography movement, commented...

Could we agree on "public-thoroughfare" photography?

Street photography is a frame of reference. I agree with whomever said, if there is any clear-cut definition at all, it is highly subjective.
Aviotus' shot of the little girl that popped out from around the corner... is a great example. Beniliam's work in our Forum is superb. I'm including my own shot of a very pretty young lady on a Jerusalem, bus done my first time out with a Kiev; I got a lot of comments on this one.
Often in street photography, you make non-verbal contact with the subject via body language. In an instant, something "clicks." THEN, you click the shutter.

Even in a field like mathematics there are words which are `understood' by one and all, and not defined in more primitive terms. I wonder whether defining street photography is important in itself; however, the exercise of trying to qua(nti/li)fy it is surely beneficial, and perhaps should be practiced more often

mfunnell, the apparent sharpness and resolution of this image are awsome compared to the others. any tech specs you'd like to share. blows your dslr image away in clarity. some may say sharpness and resolution are overated, but it's the details that keep me staring at an image. the wrinkles in the jeans are great.

I'm glad you liked the shot. The details were: Leica M3, Summilux 75/1.4 as close to wide open as possible; Kodak BW400CN, lab scan; PSE 3.0 to spot and resize.los said:any tech specs you'd like to share.
