What is this free film that I found?

If you aren't interested in using it, someone might be interested over at APUG.org.

I am a member so could post if you aren't and don't want to join just for that.

I finally got around to taking a photo of the developed film. I taped it to the patio door and used my little p/s digiwatzit so the quality isn't very good but you can get an idea of the fogging.

Holy crap you tossed it?!

Man, a good friend of mine loves shooting old film like that, even with a bit of fog. He makes amazing images and the effect of the fog, though random, is often interesting and different.

I didn't want to message you and ask you to send it to me (or some) to test as Randy did as I thought it would be misconstrued as looking for a handout or something. Tri-X! Wow. I can't believe it. How many packs were there?? Oh yeah 100. Wow.

I could imagine cutting the edges off and shooting it in a 4x5 camera. What a complete waste.

I think I can understand why you would think that people might think you were looking for a handout or something of that sort, but I on the other hand simply asked to BUY some of the film so I could test to see if it is any good. Unfortunately the pack that I tested was not useable as I stated in my test post. Not much else to do with it but to trash it, even trying to reclaim the silver would most likely cost more than you would get for the silver even at todays high silver prices, plus you have the hassle of finding a reclaimer. Even if you trimmed all the edges so your good friend could make his artsy photos how are you going to tell which side is the emulsion, do you have a notching machine? It appears that you are upset that Huss trashed the film, he did exactly what I would do in the same situation. You should really be directing your angst at the person who originally let that much film go bad, Man

Sorry but it's definitely usable. No it's not perfect like new film but that hasn't stopped plenty of creative people. Really a waste. I don't have any "angst" at all, I'm just a bit saddened that such a huge amount of film went to waste when plenty of people would have used it.

I too shake my head at the waste we humans generate, food as an example, I don't know how many times I've been in a fast food place and seen a manager trash burgers and fries simply because the staff made the order just a little bit wrong. That trashed order could have fed a really needy person, while not very healthy, it is food that would brighten that persons day. I have to disagree with the usefulness of the film unless you are cutting paper (film) dolls from it. In my 48+ years photographing I've used plenty of out dated film but this film was way beyond outdated. This discussion is now at a moot point, the film is gone, time to move on to the next injustice.

Just to clarify, Randy never asked for a handout. I sent him a packet as part of this experiment. He wanted to pay, but I refused as in my mind he was helping me out.

Corran, I am now sorry that I tossed it in haste, instead of seeing if anyone else wanted it.

I would just like to check back in and say that all the guff I posted up there about X-ray film was (a) accurate, and (b) completely useless. :D

Kudos to RandyB for sorting this out for Huss.
