This is a very typical M8 issue, the vertical line which is appearing at high ISO settings. There is nothing you can do about it but return it to the dealer and request an exchange. I had two M8s already with this issue, now I have the third one, no problems.

I don't think 320 is high ISO. I would like to buy this camera, I know all the problems it has had but this one was unknown for me

Maybe a stupid question possible someone knows the answer. Does Leica cover this issue unconditionally? My M8 is nearly new but also second hand. I bought it about a month ago and have no issues at this point. As I have been reading about the dreaded Sensor banding failure. I wonder if the Guys in Germany have decided that they should cover all M8's that develop this issue. :? It seems like a time bomb and you can't see the clock ticking.

I was not aware that the warranty expired when the camera changed hands?
Also, sent in through the dealer, it might not have your name on it.
I sent mine in through a dealer, though it was registered to me, but am not sure anything on the paper said it was mine?
Speculating though. ;-)
Hoping some service transcends warranty periods as well.
Maybe Roger, Bill, or Tom know a secret handshake? ;-)
I had good luck with a few used cameras from others, there is a chance of courtesy repair, and some just own up to a problem they know exists, such as some odd error message. I think you have a definitely good shot, better than the lotto. ;-)

I too have an M8 with the thin blue vertical line, mine about 2760 pixels to the right of the left edge; only recently discovered. The single-pixel line seems clearest in a TIFF file made with noise reduction turned off. It was a "demo" model and is now well past the 1-year store warranty.
If I send the camera to Leica for one or more of the "upgrades" I'm wondering if they'd change the sensor in the process of bringing it up to warrantable condition...

Firmware corrected my line problem
Firmware corrected my line problem
I used to have a vertivle line problem at high ISO. When I upgraded my firmware (I do not remember if it was the first or second upgrade, I bought the camera April 2007) the problem went away. So for some, it is a software issue, not a hardware issue.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, as I had the problem under warranty & they didn't replace the sensor but "remapped" it, I think. So even if it's out of warranty it shouldn't be a ridiculously expensive fix. Shouldn't happen anyway, but all is not lost.

Camera shop is swapping my M8 out for another one, which I think I'm going to test before leaving. Thank god.

Seems very reasonable, and a shop you can recommend.
Now if I can keep the dust off of the sensor without an hour's drive to the shop. :bang:
I feel a bit thick for asking, but is there any wisdom I am lacking in that department? I know, Photoshop, but less is more.
I do try to keep the lenses blown and dusted off and avoid changing glass in the laundry room while changing the lint filter.
Sensor was dirty when I got it, and when Leica serviced it, they upgraded some things, and it came back clean.
I would take a few shots of the sky, as part of your delivery regimen at the shop to see that the new one is clean out the door.

seems a very common issue.
took Leica 8 weeks to repair it on my brand new M8.
seems they eliminated it with a software update,- or who knows what., but temporarily works fine. as i understand can come back any time...?
all the best of patience with your m8.

I bought my silver demo M8 in Jan 08 from PopFlash, so it's beyond the store 1-yr warranty. Yesterday I emailed PopFlash asking for guidance in resolving the line problem. Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, didn't expect him to see the email until Tuesday. But within a few hours I got a phone call from Tony assuring me it could be worked out and asking me to dig up the warranty card. Great service from Tony Rose!

Well, I checked. Mine has a line as well, but only visible when shot into a dark area at ISO 1250 or 2500.
It's still is under warranty but I don't feel like sending it in, since I literally never shoot over ISO 320, not even in low light.
Or should I? Any thoughts?

Yes, I love my Leica dealer. Great people. But I'm going to bring my laptop with me and capture the photos directly to inspect before leaving.

"Trust, but Verify"? You are not paranoid if they are out to get you. -- Good idea.
A good dealer wants a good client.
I have not seen this with mine, but I almost never pop up the ISO, even when I should.
