arguing about who is a good photographer or which camera is best?

is this what the internet was created for?
is this why there are photo forums?

Who cares. Just go out and shoot.

Really I just use photo forums so I can learn more about the cameras I like or are interesting.

No this is not what the internet was created for.
Yes, for better or worse, this is a major reason why people visit internet fora

Arguing about photographers is far better, obviously. Because photos are much more interesting than cameras.

I suppose this question is a bit like arguing about why the Big Fellow created humans with appendices. You first have to explain the difference between creationism and evolutionism and then...

Well, you're pretty unlikely to get past the first step, so there's no point in worrying about "then".

TO CRUSH YOUR ENEMIES, TO SEE THEM DRIVEN BEFORE YOU, AND TO HEAR THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN

oh sorry... wrong question

What's more interesting?
Arguing about politics or the color of the ballot boxes at the polls?
Arguing about Novels or what typewriters they were written on?

Internet arguments about who is the best photographer and what is the best camera are like death and taxes... you want to steer clear but they are inevitable.

It is not why the internet was created, but it is why it exists....
And on this site the answers are HCB and the Leica M3 single stroke.

People are overly-argumentative wherever you go. They don't share information or opinions. They talk to "win".

Arguing about the merits of a photograph or a photographer's body of work are more interesting than arguing about a camera because the judgment of photography itself is subjective. Lots of good constructive criticism and individual thoughts on art, style, society, etc. can come up in those conversations. Arguing about a camera is a simple exclamation of one's opinion about a physical object which can serve as a tool or, for some, as a status symbol. The same topics that come up with regard to art can't really apply to machinery in the same way. The camera itself cannot simply represent the photographs it makes.

As for the internet, this is what it was created for.

Good question. I think arguing about photographers is worse, as you tend to get a lot more snobbishness and self deception.
