What is your favorite Lens for Landscape on M8

I shoot quite a bit of nature, and landscape photography. I would have a difficult time picking one lens, but I would probably opt for my 75mm. But, I really would not want to leave without my 35mm either. I have enjoyed using the 135mm length on the M8 and the extra reach as well. Sometimes I grab my 90mm, but not as often after purchasing my 75mm. I guess it's the whole kit.

I hike, climb, ski, and canoe for most of my shooting. So, the lenses allow me to focus on the subject that I want, dependent on my position. I really would not want to be left with just one lens. Unlike, when I am walking a city. Being active, is one of the reasons I abandoned the SLR system long ago and went with a great compact system. I have never looked back. A SLR system and your gear is a lot to carry up a mountain or in the back country.
 
Zeiss 18 for me. I'm one of those shoot a landscape using a foreground object types. Works for me. Surprisingly, when I shoot landscapes with a 5D Mk2 it is also the Zeiss 18mm, previously, the Zuiko 18mm.

Honestly, for me, the best lens to shoot a landscape is indeed a Zeiss 18mm....but on a 5D Mk2
 
It's an old midwife's tale that 28mm lenses are for landscapes while 135mm lenses are for wildlife etc. I use a 50mm (turned 70mm on the M8) a lot for landscapes and a 21mm for indoors, low light or snappy street photography. But that's me.
 
After trying several wide angles due to the crop factor of the M8, I've settled into a more narrow field of view mentality, the 12's and 15's just weren't my cup of tea. And now my favorite lens for most things is my 90mm Elmarit that I got from SanMich. It had been tweaked (collimated) by DAG and stands as the very sharpest lens I may ever have used. I really like it for landscapes but after reading these posts I may have to look for a 135. What is the preferred 135 for the M8? And do the eyes of the TE work with the M8? Thanks, all. Bob.

Dear Bob,

The 135/2.8 'spectacles' lens is the only one I've used with M8-8.2-9. It works perfectly and of course your effective base length is increased by 50%.

I much prefer one of the 4.0/135 versions. They are (even) better optics than the 2.8, nearly as good as the Apo 3.4/135.

My problem with a 135mm has to do with using it on a rangefinder camera--especially with a crop factor. I have no problem with long lenses for landscapes, but I feel that--for me--when I want a lens longer than 90mm, it's time to use an SLR. I've done landscapes in the mountains with 135mm, 180, 200, 300, and 400mm lenses, as well as with my wides. Rather, it's my difficulty in composing within the small 135mm framelines that makes me prefer an SLR for the longer lenses.
 
On the M8 I shoot Zeiss 25mm and 35mm, and a 90mm Elmar-C (sold) and M-Hexanon (kept). Each of them have allowed me to make landscape pictures that I like. it would be impossible to pick a "favorite" because each has strengths and limitations.

If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the 35mm because of the relatively normal FOV and I could crop to get closer and stitch to get "wider". That doesn't make it my favorite 🙂.

Yes, but not enough. Now I've seen your suggestion I'm going to try a LOT more - soon!

I like the results best at f/6,3 to f/12,5 but I'll try the other apertures too.

I agree with the notion that a tele lens is much better suited for landscape work than a (strong) wideangle, at least for me. Typically my wide angle landscape shots are boring as hell, while the few ones I do like were almost all made in the range between 90 and 300mm, roughly... I've bought my Elmar-C 90mm primarily for landscape work, but have yet to use it properly...
