Camera, lens, film or camera film combo?
My favorite is my Bessa R with a 90mm Leitz Elmar and 400 Fuji superia color
My fixed lens favorite is my Canonet QL17 GIII and Fuji Neopan 400, but I am really starting to like my Mamiya 7II with the 50mm and Fuji Reala 100.

Currently I most often use the M3 + J-8 and NP16k@640. However, I am soon switching to the M-Rokkor 40/2 as my main lens, which might demand a new camera body if the M3's viewfinder is too narrow for 40mm guesstimation. This would be a shame, as I love the M3.

M3 & Tri-X are definite. I really love both my rigid Summicron and Canon 50/1.5, can I carry both in my bag? (I do in real life)

Ralph, what kind of pictures (situations) do you use each type of lens for?

At the moment my best work seems to come from pentax 67 165 f2.8 and Tri X (heresy I know but I've got to be honest). I've been banging away with my bessa R and either CV35 1.7 or 25 F4 but I'm currently struggling to be really happy with either combination I see a 50mm and a leica in my future.... I feel an expensive trip to the camera shop coming on.....

As I narrow down the kit I carry more and more with each long trip, I find that for rangefinder work, the Bessa R with Canon 50mm f1.4, and for film - color is Kodak Gold 100 (hard to find at retail now) and B&W is now officially Arista.EDU Ultra 200 (Fomapan 200). With a yellow filter, of course.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

I'm usually carrying either my Bessa R with the 35mm Color Skopar or my Pentax MG with a 28/2.8 and a 50/2.0 macro combination. Love that Bessa but sometimes I just need to see exactly what will be on the film and the 28/50 combo is proving very versatile. 90% of the time the cameras are loaded with Elite Chrome 100, the rest of the time it's whatever black-and-white film I have handy.

I use them interchangeably Frank. The rigid I picked up is super sharp, very "Summicron" if you know what I mean. I like the slightly less contrast than from my more current Summicron. The Canon is just a favorite. I use both for general situations.

I try to shoot both at f2-f4 if possible. I shoot my TriX for Diafine so that means the lenses are hooded with yellow filters to knock down the film speed a stop.

Both lenses are remarkably well made and handsome. No current lens, Leica, Zeiss, CV, nobody's, can hold a torch to the craftsmanship of the 1950s lenses.

I've been carrying my new 0.72 M7 + Hexanon 28mm everywhere for about 3 weeks now. Will continue I think for a while longer. Its partly a test of the new cam and partly getting used to the 28mm focal length again.

M3 with 1935 50mm Summar and my 111A with a 1936 90mm elmar Tri-x film... iIwould like to pick up a 50mm 2.8 elmar M mount.. But I just bought a Gossen digiflash meter so I will have to hold off for a while ... i also have to get another 100'roll of Tri-x....

Contax IIa with 35, 50 and 135 lenses and a few rolls of Agfapan APX 100 (Ektachrome when I want color). Been toying around a bit with a couple of 85mm lenses.

Bronica RF645 with 65mm and Fuji NPZ800 film. But I just returned from a couple weeks vacation trip by car, and it turned out I used the Pentax 67 with 75mm and Fuji NPH400 a lot more!

Favorite?

Bessa-T loaded with Fuji NPH, and sporting an M-Hexanon 50/2 and a 1:1 finder. The CV25/4 comes close though.

But most important ingredient: all the time in the world. With this setup I need my time to focus, measure, compose, and only then shoot. If I've got that time, it's a very relaxing experience..
