what lens will go down in price...

Prices for the 50/1.0 might come down a little more since the first copies of the 50/0.95 ASPH have been delivered and some of the buyers or potential buyers might sell their old 50/1.0.

Anyway, I like my 50/1.0 and won't sell it but might add a 35/1.2 in the future ... 🙂

I've been giving the dropping-prices issue some thought and here's what I think will happen: at first, all prices will go down, some more than others. Once the Nokton f1.1 catches on some shooters will want to distinguish themselves and start looking for a (possibly more expensive) alternative for the Nokton, and prices will go back up again.

Like said earlier, the trick is to predict when the market will be at its lowest...

The Super Nokton promises to be a great lens for the $. However, some will want a f/1.0 or f/.95 and the Super will be an option among others. Some will prefer the Hex 50/1.2. Those with deep pockets will still go for the f/1.0 and f/.95 just because.

Take the 50mm/1.5 Nokton for example. People still buy the Summilux ASPH at 5x the cost. I suspect the Super Nokton vs the NoctilUx to shake out similarly.

I agree with Paul. I think in the short-term prices on the pre-ASPH Noctilux will drop a little but in the longer term will return to current levels. The lens is discontinued so its unique characteristics plus limited availability will mean it will retain its value.

well, tricky question.

The 1.1 Nokton will certanly push the other used Noktons down in price - specially when it will start to hit the used market. And most likely the Canon's as well.

Problem is it will take some time for it to appear in the used market reguarely so it drives the other noktons and canons down, so I would say 3 to 6 months.

The 1.0 Noctilux's vs the 0.95 vs 1.1 Nokton is very complicated and constrained with lots of factors.

I said over and over the 0.95 is a much better lens overall than the 1.0 that that improvement came at a cost : the bokeh. And that swirlly crazy bokeh is e-x-a-c-t-l-y what made the Noctilux famous.

So I expect to see few users dumping their 1.0 to trade up for the 0.95 but I can see the 1.0 ( if the 0,95 is not that good in the bokeh department ) bumping in price again.

Very few users will trade in their 1.0 Nocti's for a 1,1 Nokton, if at all. Yes, it would make perfect sense, Nocti's are specific tools for specific times so it would make sense to trade a 4 or 5k lens for a 1k lens that does almost the same since its used not so often.

Many people use this logic but I have YET TO SEE ONE SINGLE NOCTI USER to say that logic.

First problem : since when buying a Noctilux, new or used, is a logic buy ?

Its heavy, has focus problems, can't be used all the time, filters are expensive, upsets teh balance of the M camera, its expensive even in Leica terms.

So why a insane ( all of us, Nocti users, are ) Notilux user will trade their Nocti for a Nokton ?

I wont.

The Nocti is the Leica White Unicorn. Its something you have to do.

Ex-Nocti users might be tempted to buy the nokton, that I belive.

But current ones, I dont.

A friend of mine will be selling his Noctii to get the 50/1.1 AND an M8(.2) since he uses digital now (DSLR) and all his Leitz lenses are just stored in a cabinet... he rarely uses his film cameras now. So this gives him a chance to use his lenses again, and "replace" his Nocti with a similar lens, as well as get into digital RF... So I guess the reasons for someone to trade up depends...
