What Motivates You?

Being an artist before becoming a photog, I'm still drawn to createing that image forming in my brain and hoping that it translates into a visible 2 dimensional capture of my muse's vision.
Damn, did I say that? 🙄

I've always loved the tremendous 'high' I get when I know that I've just captured a keeper! The motivation to go out, as often as possible, to walk the city streets, looking for my next 'high', has made me realize that I am addicted to the power, emotion, and impact an image can have on me and others. Now, if my achy legs and knees would only give me a break, I'd be out even more!

Just seeing the gorgeous fall-filtered light at dusk, like last night, it's so magic that you hate for it to "disappear" without capturing it on film. 🙂

I earn money and keep my family doing something which is sometimes so totally engrossing that I forget that there is more to me, or to the world. A while back I discovered my musical side---hello! here's a new continent!---and just recently I rediscovered photography, which used to be just a bit of a pleasurable adjunct to my job. But actually to do it for its own sake, or for something which several of you have pointed to so eloquently... Well, there's a thing. A late conversion, I suppose. There is a particular photograph by Lee Friedlander of a deserted streetcorner in Albuquerque---oh yes, there is the dog in there---that is absolutely miraculous and worth going out to try yourself. (I'd post a copy but I only know it from a printed source. Anybody know of it on the net?) And thanks, Todd, for setting off this thread.

Found the Friedlander photo. I'll try to attach it. It's called 'Albuquerque 1972'.

What motivates me? I dunno, but sometimes I wish I could just stop. It draws me in, takes up a lot of my time and creative energy, and there's no real practical purpose for it. Hey, that's a pretty good definition for art, eh?

yeah but what else would you do with your time and energy, not to mention money?

hey wait a minute, you're right, you should quit this whole stinkin hobby and sell your gear. yeah, that's it sell your gear!

ok, line up starts here for that canon rf.😉
