Actually looking at the photos I have to agree with the comments that this was good craftsmanship; its quite crude. Probably not fraud (except for the bid) because all the seller states is what is written on the camera with no claim of authenticity. Caveat emptor

Still, it could have been someone who wanted an example of the awful things that happen in this wicked world. I bought a Fed1(g) out of curiosity as they'd been slated so much and found it to be a civilised and reasonable version of a Leica II (unlike - say - Hollywood's remake of some well known films).

And one of these days I mean to buy a Summar just to see if they are as bad as almost everyone implies.

And did our publicity here help attract buyers to the golden wonder? A lot of people chase after the most viewed stuff; it's like saying "as seen on TV"...

I have one with nicer engraving - put black suede on mine pending new leather .
Bought cheap from UK seller . I love it !
I would not advocate such treatment , but if it brings broken cameras back to life ,
why not ?

I don't agree. He was claiming that it was a Leica he found in his uncle's attic, which is quite obviously a lie. Unless his dearly departed Uncle was a collector of recently-faked Leicas and didn't tell anyone.

Both seller and buyer have now left their feedback for this deal ("super camera very pleased"). As 'outfitter'spotted, they have had a lot of previous transactions together, all in the same direction (25 since January 2008 according to my count). I'm sure there must be something dodgy going on here - I just can't work out what it is!
