What replaces a 21 on an M8?

I was in San Francisco over the weekend, shooting with an M8 and a 28 Hexanon (the latter.... after minor recalibration for an M8 basically crushes every other lens I have for the camera... ). But one problem I kept running into was that I was always a little bit short on viewing angle for some things (example: shooting up a hill). I have a 21mm, but by my estimates, its angle of view on an M8 (like a 28mm) would not really do it where a 35mm equivalent wouldn't.

I know from my Kodak 14n and 17-35/2.8 AFs (24x36mm sensor) that 20mm seems to be about the magic spot for the vertical subjects - any wider and things get dicey.

Has anyone used the 18mm Zeiss Distagon? Are there any other realistic alternatives to the WATE or the 15mm Zeiss? I would look at CV except that I like to be able to cap the lens to drop the camera in a coat pocket. Also, you can't really stick a UV/IR on the CV 15.

Insights?

I took the glass out of a B+W UV filter, ground off the rear (male) threads flush with the mount, and epoxied it inside the shade fins of the CV 15, thereby giving it female threads. Alone it doesn't vignette an M6 and the original cap fits. With a Leica 39mm IR filter added, it doesn't vignette the M8 and a Leica 39mm pushbutton cap fits. I used the old-style (no cut-out) 9cm M-adaptor, ground a single recess and filled it with black auto touchup, it's now coded as a WATE.

Just curious Dante, what sort of recalibration did you have done on the 28/2.8? I am interested in picking up one of these and already have the 50/2.

Thanks,

I think you do the CV 15 an injustice; incredibly good for its price, the JLM mount adapter can be coded, the Leica 39 mm UV reversed can be wedged into the lenshood and the cap will fit, there is a JLM filter adapter here as well. The most cost=effective alternative in the 21 mm equivalent class on the M8.
Just now I see Ben posted his brilliant solution as well.

CV 15 Filter

CV 15 Filter

I use a Leica 39mm filter on my CV 15. With an O-ring on the threads it just fits into the lens hood, and the cap fits as before. No vignetting. I've read that others have used felt tape or such things to fill the small gap between the OD of the filter and the ID of the hood. Also, John Milich, who can be found on the LUG forum, makes a filter adapter for the CV 15 which as I recall uses a Leica 39mm filter as well. You mean LUF forum I suppose. LUG is an e-mail list group.
