Ok gent's bought a Voigtlander Bessa-R for $190.00 off Ebay. I would like to know what lens to get for it. I know I need a Leica screw mount type lens but what manufacturer is best for this camera and I read something about the lens needs to be rangefinder coupled? What is that?
Regards

Lenses labeled as "Leica threadmount (LTM)," "M39," or of course screwmount should work with the Bessa R. Uncoupled lenses may exist, but I haven't encountered one. What are you looking for in a lens?

The Leica screw mount is also referred to as LTM, m39 and l39.

Many manufacturers have made lenses for this mount. They all made lenses in other mounts as we'll so brand is no guarantee.

Leica (of course), Canon/Serenar, Nikon/Nikkor and Zeiss lenses in LTM are all good, as are the modern Voigtlander lenses. There are many other brands.

Jupiter and Industar lenses from the former Soviet Union are reasonable but not 100% compatible. 50mm and wider and/or f2.8 or slower are ok.

I find it helpful to look at example photos tagged with the lens, in Flickr or the gallery here.

Plenty of nice little voigtlander lenses to start you off, the 35mm f2.5 is one that springs to mind, cheap enough, great image quality by all accounts, and a nice little focussing knob for zone focussing. Definitely recommend a 35mm lens to start with, as its the longest focal length to easily zone focus with, imo, and will allow you to explore the fluidity that zone focussing offers on a rangefinder, as well as all the other rangefinder goodness you will get from any lens.
