I've been thinking about opening a blog and writing a few articles about photography and equipment. Nothing fancy - just my travels, thoughts on choosing gear and maybe notes about ongoing projects. 500px used to have "stories", which I though was nice...but then they shut it down.

So for those of you who run your own photo websites/blogs: what services do you use?

I don't run a blog, but I do have a premium account at Zenfolio, which does include a fully integrated blog feature so if I ever do decide to start a blog, that's what I would use.

Thanks. Zenfolio seems nice, but $140 per year is a little stiff since I'm already paying for a 500px subscription.

I use Tumblr and its free. It has a lot of different free templates and more you can buy if I remember correctly. Easy to use from desktop or mobile app

I'd second the recommendation for Tumblr. Very simple to use, great themes and posting tools, and makes it easy to follow other blogs you may be interested in.

Also, the key factor for me is that Tumblr explicitly states in their terms of service that they claim no copyright whatsoever on the work you post.

This won't work for everyone, but ....

If you are looking to create a simple, no-frills photo / blog website, you only need to learn about 12 HTML tags and use a plain text editor, or the simplest HTML editor you can download.

Buy a domain name, rent server space, and do it your way.

Not the right solution for most people, but it works for some.

I actually know a bit of HTML😀 I knew a lot more back in high school, though.

I 'm not sure, however, about going to that length just for writing for fun. I'm not trying to sell prints or even get more coverage, so I'm not anticipating the amount of traffic that would justify a proper site and server.

RFFer John Wolf uses Tumblr well, I think, both for a gallery and a blog. Have a look.

I use Tumblr for images only, specifically for those I want to look their best in horizontal as well as vertical for tablet viewing. I paid an extra $20 for theme that gives me the layout/look I want, and to autopush everything out to Twitter, FB, etc.

I find Blogger a bit awkward considering how simple Tumblr is. Wordpress is also very simple to use and customizable if you wish.

For my own blog, I've moved everything to Kirby, a flat file CMS. It's not for everyone, but I find it simply brilliant, quite happy with it

I have a blog on my website (wordpress based), but nowadays I mostly use tumblr instead. It's free, it has many different templates to chose from, and I find that there are a lot of other photo/art related blogs to follow for inspiration. It's not only a blog but also a social media platform, but the two are nicely separated and you can choose just to blog and ignore the other part if you want.

A couple of example blogs:
