OK, I would sell my just-CLA'd Leica 35mm pre-asph Summilux for less than that

Well I like to see that because other film camera prices seem to be falling. I have been disappointed with my last few eBay sales and notice nobody is selling with an opening bid of $0.99 anymore - now its either BIN or high opening bid; a sure sign that sellers are wary of getting burned.
I heard that the 35mm Biogon and 50mm Planar are not going to be produced for 2 years... I will sell mine for 3x the price now... thank you.

This is really getting (or well beyond, rather) ridiculous.
Thats how I feel.
Been on a wait list for a year for a chrome 50 ASPH lux.
A local Leica dealer only has a 21 and 24 Elmarit ASPH, everything else is back ordered.
How about Leica price gouging in the first place?

The luxury market for all kinds of goods has apparently rebounded, e.g., http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/04/business/sales-of-luxury-goods-are-recovering-strongly.html.

I just saw a 35 Lux FLE sell for $8,650. There's a listing for a 50 Noct ASPH for nearly $13k (hasn't sold... yet). List price is $10,495 - granted, there's a year wait through official channels on a new one.

That 8650 was a new high. I think one sold for 8500 last month.
I'm happy with my glass ( Contax G 28/2.8 m-mount, 35 cron IV, and 50 cron Rigid and V3 ).

Leica is to blame for halting supply, simple as that. As a pricing strategy, its working so expect price rises from Leica very soon to meet the used price market they created

I might have gotten something wrong about capitalism... but how does Leica as a company make money by not selling stuff? ;-)

I don't think that $8650 is real. What is asked, and what is negotiated in PMs are two different things.
There are FLEs on ebay BIN for less, why would they pay that?

The 8500 figure was actually 8k as posted, but it didn't sell for that.

Leica are probably selling exactly the same amount or not a little less than before, except because they've not increased supply to meet demand, demand has increased x10, and forced the used market into a frenzy, increasing the perceived value. Once perceived value has risen, Leica can 'slowly' start increasing prices, and supply to meet 'part' of the current demand, always leaving a gap to ensure future viability.
.....M4/3 cameras have also increased the interest in Leica.
It's a longer term marketing strategy that is working, wouldn't you say?

Double negative, a brand new noctilux sold for almost $14K on ebay the other day.
STUPID USED PRICES, anyone see this MP3 that just sold. Outrageously priced: http://cgi.ebay.com/Leica-MP3-RF-Ca...Film_Cameras&hash=item5ae1e2e085#ht_500wt_895
But seriously, scam? Doesn't have any scam signs except the price. My god. Guessing he missed a zero or something.

Every auction I post starts at 0.99
Interesting comparison: yesterday I sold a 25 year old Leica lens for $1550 with over 50 bids. Bidding started at 0.99.
About 30 minutes after my auction ended, there was another identical lens in essentially the same condition that started with an opening bid of $600, and had no bids. It ended up at $700 with 4 bids.

That's not an MP3, it's a regular MP. BUT the 35/2 ASPH is the BP version. A used version of that lens is currently around $4K so pair that with a regular MP at $2.5K then you have $6.5K so yes - missing zeros somewhere.STUPID USED PRICES, anyone see this MP3 that just sold. good catch i spaced on that, but still somethings wrong as you said. Probably a mis typed buy it now price, especially considering the other leica items are not at the greatest prices
