Bille's design, which I really like, made me realise that the thing that bugged me the most in the DF was the bulk and slimming it down made it hugely more attractive to me.
I'd still probably keep the ISO dial, just make it smaller, and merge the EV comp dial with the shutter speed dial a la Contax G1 (with apologies for my lame photoshop skills)
ANd of course no locking pins.
Finally, I'd keep the top LCD because I'd lose the rear one 😀
but thats a whole different discussion.
Good work. That looks really nice. But are the shutter speeds printed upside down on the real DF? Otherwise, fab.
I think I would advocate a locking pin for the ISO dial, or at least a heavier detent to avoid accidental movement.

I "borrowed" the shutter speed dial from the Contax G1 (minus the locking pin which I photoshopped out). It looks upside down because on the Contax the indicator is on the right, so when you put it on an actual shutter speed the numbers come right:
I think you missed my point. Sure, there are a bunch of Nikon cameras with aperture priority mode (my FM3A is one of them). But I have yet to see one marked Av on the shutter speed dial 😉

I like more to be directly controllable from dials, not less.
I Should be able to control ISO, EV comp, shutter speed, drive mode, and aperture without menu diving. more is even better. I'll take a slightly cluttered body if it means I never have to stop shooting to go to the on-screen menu.

Personally I'm surprised we haven't had some speculation about a hypothetical rumoured Canon camera of equal ethereal quality ...

We should get some RFF members to apply for a job at Nikon's engineering department and show them how it's done. Great design, Spyro.

I like the DF the way it is also. I like the idea of a less menu-driven camera.

As far as I know, the F mount requires a minimum lens-sensor distance which means you might as well have a mirror box. I am not sure you could decrease the body thickness this much and retain compatibility will F mount lenses,

I'd gladly lay out 3.000 Euros for a digital SP, kind of the same price the SP 2005 kits go for these days.

Until a person actually holds the camera, they won't know what it feels like. While the DF looks much fatter and less ergonomic than the film Nikons, it might feel great in hand. I, personally, like the look better than the digital SLR's that have been produced in the last decade. I do think it's several hundred too expensive but the price is sure to drop within a few months.
