What to do...

Now there's a thought. I'd expect the winding mechanism to fit on the body with little problems, but stuffing it under the top plate might cue some serious metal working... Wouldn't mind a lever-winding FED-2 though!

The only drawback of using dead Zenits is that we might run out of Zenits and spares for good ones  Luckily there's still quite a few around...

Hi,

I have often wondered, knowing the USSR mentality from that period, if the cameras shared parts and were modular in design. (I used to liaise with my opposite number in the USSR in the 60's and they were very bureaucratic but tended to be sensible and helpful. More than could be said for other countries... )

Anyway, that was my thinking.

Regards, David

PS And think about starting with a FED 2 or two and adding the lever wind...
No need to do so, FED already did it with the FED 2L. Essentially, it's a FED 3B with a FED 2 shutter mechanism (i.e. no slow speeds). Doesn't have the wide-base RF though.

From what I read, it was a way to use up the remaining stocks of FED 2 shutters after the "normal" model's life was over.

I'm trying to make a decision about which color covering to get for the Zorki, but while perusing Aki Asahi's site I have run across a bunch of dead links to the different covers. And He also sells the shutter curtain material shown as a "kit" with the tapes included, and then states later that the tapes are an extra cost item. Is he that poor of a site keeper to have all those inconsistencies?

I've heard nothing but good things about him and his products, so does everyone just muddle through the mist while doing business with him?

Hi PF,

Just received the camera skin for my Kiev fae Aki Asahi. Had a number of problems navigating the site but eventually got the stuff ordered. He also requires a link clicked in an email he sends for invoicing (even using Paypal).

Ah emailed him separately, tae inform him of the onsite problems, he was very apologetic and said that he would investigate. Bought the croc skin and eyepiece patches + P+P, total - $23. A 5% discount for buying 2 (or more) items reduced this.

The leathers arrived yesterday, 7 days exactly from Japan tae the UK. He'd included an extra leather kit in black because of the problems ah'd experienced.

The kit includes 2 different shapes for the right-side panel and 3 for the left tae cover the different model designs.

Good quality leather and excellent service (in the end).
