This is by far the WORST suggestion I have ever heard... I saw this and laughed the whole time because it was as terrible as it could have been.
No offense meant personally or anything and maybe you were just being sarcastic...

Yeah it was a bit tongue in cheek. I hate Zoriah, but the show was mildly disgusting and entertaining.
 
"exit through the gift shop". a complete moron ends up in the middle of a pop art movement. utterly hilarious, very intelligent.

Or one could say, The Genius of Photography according to Martin Parr.

A six hour documentary about photography which features some gas station photographer and Nan Goldin but no Salgado, Eugene Richards, Moriyama, Ansel Adams, Strand... Not to mention ridiculing others such as Eugene Smith, and portraying Philip Jones Griffiths as a grumpy 'old guard of magnum' who hates Martin Parr.

The first two episodes and the fourth episode are ok.

They certainly are great. I think the Wiseman films are hard to find. 'Salesmen' by the Maysles is a must see.

'Heart of the Angel' by Molly Dineen is a short documentary film made in the '70s about a dilapidated tube station in London. Only saw it once on TV years ago. Would love a copy if anyone knows how to get it on DVD. [edit - I see the BFI is releasing several DVDs of the films of Moly Dineen this year. Heart of the Angel will be included in the first set]

Zhang's Diner - amazing recent doc about a Chinese couple who move from a rural area to start a small cafe in a big city. Encapsulates a lot of what is happening on a big scale in China.

Demon Lover Diary - bizarre 70s doc about some Michigan blue collar eccentrics who are trying to make a low budget horror film.

Not sure of the name - would appreciate if someone can tell me. I saw a doc a few years ago about a ship that was transporting goods around European ports. It looked at the crew & how hard it was for them to get paid & often they don't know who they are actually working for. It was on late night TV, excellent but I forgot the name.

A friend sent me the Arakimentari and it was great fun to watch 🙂 The guy is a monster in photography indeed. Very intense, constantly energetic and loud, fun to watch him work.


I'm interested in any other documentaries on (film) photographers, any recommendations!?
