I enjoyed the thread over on Fred Miranda's Site as to "What's in your M8 Kit?"
I sat down and added up what my primary kit would weigh. Not a trivial idea, as many of us will use an M8 as a supplement to DSLR kits (My DSLR kit weighs a ton), to do street/travel/etc photography. I plan to carry the M8 and 21mm, 28mm, 35mm and 50mm f1.5 Zeiss ZM lenses and the 24mm Leica ASPH. This total kit weighs 5.87 pounds!. Add a few filters, shades etc, and I can see the TOTAL kit weighing about 6 pounds. I'm 69 years old...I think I can manage walking around with that load. If I REALLY travel light, I have CV 15, 21, and 35mm f2.5 lenses. If I carried these three lenses, and left the others in the car/hotel/etc, I could save even more weight! That kit would weigh in at an unbelievable 2.1 pounds! All weights include M8 and battery!

If I go to Europe next summer, I plan to take an M8, two tri-elmars, a Noctilux and a 75 Summilux (or maybe a 90, but only one of the two.) Total equipment weight will be about 5.5 pounds. But for actual walking around, with just the M8 and a tri-elmar, total weight will be a hair over two pounds; using the nocti or the 75 would bring the carry weight to ~ three pounds.

As a reference (and not a criticism) a 1Ds2 weighs a bit more than 3.3 pounds with a battery but without a lens...

Hey Dave ... you need at least 4 M8 bodys ... swapping lenses all the time is not what RF photography is all about :)
Althoug i own 6-7 Leica lenses in different focal length .. i only take 1 attached to the body when i go shooting (on occasion max 1 additional in my pocket).
No bags .. just a folded plastic bag in the pocket of my trousers in case it starts raining :)
So very light indeed.

Yeah, I use a 1DSII as my primary camera. I know about the weight. Occasionally I photograph with that camera and several other lenses in my Photo Vest. Gives you a real workout walking through soft sand where I do most of my work.
