what's a good monitor...

been there
done that
didn't find that info

If it doesn't say IPS, then it probably isn't (it's probably TN, which I personally wouldn't use for photo editing).

This page, for example, has a column called IPS/Wide Angle:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/sna.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~topic=ultrahd_monitor

If you click on, for example, http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=860-BBFF

you can click on the 'tech specs' and see that this model is;

Panel Type, Surface:
In-plane switching (IPS)

This one also says IPS and seems quite cheap.

I'm not recommending any of these models, as I don't know them. But the information is there.

As I already posted, Eizo has the semi-pro line Flexscan that can reproduce almost 100% Adobe RGB and is not that expensive.
I am very happy with my Eizo Flexscan
Before that I had a Viewsonic. I was unhappy, it had burned pixels and broke in a short time. The assistance proposed me to swap with a used one.
I sent them to the hell and bought the Eizo.

computers and monitors…as personal and complicated a decision as buying a camera…

i have what i have and hope it works and that i'll be happy with it.
my current viewsonic minitor still works fine after all these years…almost as old as my mac…i may keep it and use it as a second screen but really, i have no idea what i might need a second screen for...
