How much did you pay for each ? i'm sending off my order when i get back for my holidays

N74 100ft/30m £59.52 per roll all taxes and P&P paid
UN54 same £45.86 per roll

Very prompt transaction, no issues.

I note is 100ft and therefore 30.5m so should squeeze a full roll at the end.

Some of these prices are just silly. I have a local retailer that sells 100' rolls of Tri-x for 60 USD. I have three in my freezer.

£116 a roll !! We kid you not.

ORWO prices look far from silly to us.
Before you suggest import we are stung for VAT 20% and import duty from outside the EU your price would nearly double, plus the X-ray risk.

My ORWO UN54 came last week and I look forward to trying it.

Best part of getting it was realizing their name is "Original Wolfen" which just sounds really neat to me. And then I read up on the history of the company and it's roots with Agfa and the prewar stuff etc. Which made it more cool.

My fave part of receiving the film was the -hand written- packing slip. It felt like someone who loved film had sent me a care package, not a company shipping a customer film. Very cool to me.

Can't way to try it!

The rest of my bulk stuff is a mix of Arista and Ilford films. I've not yet tried any of the Kodak TriX/TMax in bulk but I have enjoyed using their cassette films. So I guess I should add one or 10 of those to the freezer too.

I feel comfortable enough now with the bulk loading that I think I need to invest in some more cassettes that are more sturdy. The ones I use now are plastic, sometimes leave threads and felt in the shots and have come open a time or two. Any suggestions on reasonably priced 35mm cassettes that will work in any camera? THey don't need coding, just plain cassettes is fine. I just want something that I can reuse more with less worry of felt and thread in the shots or leaks.

Stop reading the Daily Mail. Subtract 20% VAT from £116 and you still get £92.80 (a bit under $150). The money is not all going to the exchequer.

US prices are normally quoted tax free. When I last lived in California, (1992) as far as I recall sales tax was 8.5%. Yes, a lot lower than 20% VAT but (1) the UK has a National Health Service -- in California in about 1991 I ran up a $1300 bill in 6 hours with a kidney stone -- and (2) a lot of Americans cheat on their taxes, by not paying sales tax on goods bought out of state.

See also gsgary above. And Ilford pay their taxes.

Cheers,

R.

Just getting back into bulk loading and wondering what good quality cassettes are available. I have the Freestyle plastic ones with the screw-on ends, but they seem tight for 36 exposures plus enough for lead and trailer. Are there any others out there, either metal or plastic, that are sturdy enough for half a dozen uses or more? Thanks.

In case that's what you use, you always have the dedicated cassettes for Leica or Nikon F/F2.
