What's causing that blue line in M7 shot

Hi,

I took the following with a D3 on the left and a M7 on the right. I can't remember whether I used a 50mm Zeiss planar or an old (1958) summilux 50mm.

What's causing that blue line down the middle of the shot? I presume it is the sun but why produce that line. This was the only shot on the roll into the sun and the only one with a line like that.

The film shot is a low res (4mb) scan.

My first guess would be from the lens, but have you tried rescanning? Could be something from the scanner.

what film? I had a lot of these in expired film, or films stores under unusual condition for a while. If this is the only one, that camera light leak perhaps is not the cause. if you can see the blue line on the negative itself, then it is problem of film or processing. not need to worry too much.

No, indeed i'm not worried about that. Just to know that in which case, the lens could be effected by lighting source [IHMO the lens is the main reason]. I excluded the light leak possibility but dont know about the expired film.

This was the only shot with the blue light in it .. so perhaps it was the processing. I will try and examine the negative -- need to find a loupe.

Yes. I came back from Spain with it in the camera. I never thought of that.

I second the x-ray damage suggestion, had similar strikes on a few frames, very randomly distributed after a trip by plane.

Yeah, it looks a bit like x-ray damage.

The second is a bit more curious because the blue seems to follow the shape of the film gate. I've had one occurrence of a blue flare when shooting towards a stage that had a few intense spots pointed out into the audience during a Q&A. Since the blue flares appeared in the bottom of several frames, I can only assume that the light entered the lens at a downward angle and reflected up inside the camera. It has never happened again. And it was never with this sort of coverage either.

You might just check the mount on both the lens and the camera for tightness though. Make sure light isn't finding its way in that way. Kind of a stretch though.

If it's x-ray or light leak, I would expect to have similar in other frames as well. If you only have one frame with this "blue", I would think it's processing...

One possibility is a light baffle problem. Did you change lenses just before this shot?

i got one film back from a local lab I had never used before.
blue line on the images. is it a bad scan? or something more dodgy?

other films taken since, with same lens, have been fine, but processed elsewhere...

dreadful shots but was just testing this new camera that came to me.

Hello:

This is probably a film scratch. The processing machine or, more critically, the camera pressure plate are possible culprits. Try another processing shop.

That is clearly a failure of the main light seals. I just had this expensive issue fixed by DAG on my M6.
