Whats have you lost, kit wise

My CV 25mm finder decided to jump ship when I was skiing. I thought that something black lying on snow would easily be found again.. well I can tell you it's not.

Most expensive bit of kit I've lost so far is a lens cap for a Voigtlander 35mm f/1.7 Ultron. I lost it in a pub 2 months after I got that lens.

The closest I have come was my Sverdlovsk light meter. It fell out of my jacket pocket in the back seat of a rental car just before I turned it in at the Lisbon airport. While I was guarding our lugage, waiting for my wife to get out of the ladies room, I took a quick inventory and realized that it was missing. When I went back to where I had turned in the car one of the guys saw me coming and held up a brown envelope. He had absolutely no clue as to what he had found, but had laboriously copied down the cyrilic lettering on the meter.

A few years ago I was walking down the street when the metal lens cap off my Elmar 50 popped off and right before my eyes, rolled down the street and into a drain. I was silently stunned for a minute and decided to try and forget about it. A few days later realizing that these embossed Leica caps were about $20 a piece I went back to the drain, found the cap, moved the grate, pulled up my sleeve and rescued it.

I am now paranoid about lens caps, and use boring, cheap plastic ones whenever possible.

Worst ever was almost 20 years ago: a 21/2.8 Elmarit-M, which must have fallen out of a pocket in a Moscow theatre when I was covering a Supermodel contest.

Cheers,

R.
