I'm interested in a 7S or 7SZ body to complement my P's, and I'm looking around, but not seeing a lot of them for sale, so I don't have a sense what a reasonable price is in user condition. I don't particularly want a mint condition one, because I'm going to use it.

There's plenty of 7's going on Ebay, but the 7S, and especially the 7SZ are pretty rare, so there's very little pricing history to work with.

Has anyone been tracking these recently?

Many thanks,

---Michael

Bearing in mind that condition is very important, the 7sZ has been going on eBay for between 700 to 900 USD with or without a lens, with a fair amount of variability in final price. Also, given that relatively few of the 7sZ were made (i.e., 4000), the prices also reflect collector interest in this model.

On the other hand, an RFF member sold a 7sZ body-only with a non-working meter, but otherwise in very good condition, for 450 USD last week. The consensus from the RFF posters was that $450 was a darn good deal.

Dexdog,

I saw that FS posting and considered it, but I'm not entirely sure that it's the camera I want. However, it's about the first 7SZ that I have seen for sale, so it is part of what got me thinking about what they are worth. I figure that the price was good, but didn't have any sense what a normal fair price is.

Do the 7S cameras sell for a bit less, say in the 5-700 range?

Another related question, does anyone know whether the 7 selenium meter or the 7S/7SZ CDS meter are more likely to be functional? Is there a chance that either one could be repaired at this late date?

Not a big deal if I have to use a handheld, but I figure it woiuld be nice if there is a functional meter on the camera, since it if part of the size and weight of the camera anyway.

I can't speak to the selenium meter, but DAG Camera will repair a CdS meter on a 7s. I don't think that it is a difficult repair, and wouldn't be surprised if other folks would repair it as well.

I asked KEH repair about selenium model...they said it depended on their current inventory of junque Canon 7 (they'd cannibalize if they could). Note that their Canon 7's are almost described as "Excellent...nonfunctioning meter."
