Whats up with black tape & M6 cameras?

Hey, I just like the way an all black camera looks. I generally choose not wear company logo advertisements on t-shirts and sweatshirts either.

BTW, I loved that movie and enjoy watching UFC and mixed martial arts matches. Something very visceral in it.

chrome tape???

i have a chrome m6ttl that's taped up. tape used for heating ducts etc. matches my "ridiculous" or "delusional" belief in "taped' up cameras perfectly... but i suppose that after 20 some odd years wandering the streets of thedowntown eastside of vancouver and never losing a single camera... well my delusion suits me just fine.
 
i have shot in new york, used to live there, shot in austria, across canada, driving, and the u.s.a. when i did a motorcycle trip cross country, lots in vancouver, used to visit a bit.
all without tape on my cameras and never had a problem either.

we're just 2 lucky guys, eh?

again i do not attest it all to those controversial little bits of tape... just a very LOW profile. part of which includes the tape!
 
I have a question: why do some folks buy black cameras instead of chrome? Do they think that it makes the camera is less visible? Do they think others can't see that they are holding a (black) box up to their eye and taking pictures? Now that's funny.

Or maybe is it jsut because they happen to like the look of a camera in black? How much more of a stretch is it to understand that some folks like their cameras ALL black?

Bill Jay in Lenswork magazine (a couple of issues ago) mildly ridiculed the use of tape. I got the impression that he felt the use of tape was an effort to be cool, but that the really hyper-cool people (like himself, perhaps) were beyond that.

All my early cameras were the standard chrome with black composite (Pentax Spotmatic.) But the first time I saw an all-black Nikon I thought, "That's nice." I think I like black cameras for the same reason that I like brown-eyed women, while admitting that blue-eyed women are also wonderful.

If not ridicule then at least condescension. I just want to stand up to it and show how petty that attitude is.
 
I don't want to cause any trouble, but I prefer chocolate ice cream to vanilla when out in a crowd.

But to be fair I prefer chocolate icing on chocolate cake.
 
If I wanted to tape up a camera, I'd get a Holga...hold it – I'd have to tape that thing up, but for different reasons...

I just carry that other piece of finely crafted German engineering along with my Leica, an HK P7M8. :D

No worries Joe, I know. Conversations, like foods, are more interesting if they're spicy not bland. :)

Clearly I'm not trying to hide the fact that it's (not) a Leica.

With the more recent Bessas, the type is so small it practically doesn't pay to tape it over (a good move by Mr. K, say I).
