Hi guys,

Browsing, browsing and came across this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=270275881030

US$740 seems pretty pricey for this lens and it does not come with anything except lens caps and a UV filter. Whilst it looks minty, there is a chip in the glass. Perhaps I'm missing something here, but is there something about this lens that's rare or special that novice like myself are not aware of? The markings look pretty standard to me too.

Cheers,

Looks like two folks got in a bidding war. Great majority of bids, and all later bids, were placed by just two bidders. Nothing remarkable about the lens IMHO- at least nothing to justify $700.

1. The lens doesn't sell for $300 anymore; those days are gone, like the days of the $1,500 Noctilux. 2. The price is "up" in dollars, but the dollar is down relative to other currencies. 3. Unlike most sellers, this guy took really nice down-the-barrel shots showing how clear his glass looks. Very reassuring to would-be buyers.

I still cannot understand what's the current hype on the 50/1.2
One year ago it was cheaper and easier to obtain than a good 50/1.4.
From users point of view this is the right pricing. In terms of rarity value as well.

Thanks guys for the confirmation that it's a regular version. Prices have been creeping up, but this was just exceptionally higher so I thought there might be more to it than meets the eye. Obviously just a case of bidding wars.

Cheers,
