What's Your Best Bargain Find?

In 2003 I hit a bowl game parlay card for enough to buy a M7 and a used 35mm Summilux ASPH from a gentleman on the Leica User Group.

I'm pretty sure that I'll sell the ASPH for ~350% of what I paid when I finally do so.

(nb: I shortly thereafter dropped out of college, lost darkroom access and digital took over the world - I could never get into shooting film without a darkroom and the pair has probably seen 5 rolls/year on average)

Where you at Penn/Annenberg? Saw that your signature linked to there--I'm at Penn right now....

Oh, I'm in Texas. That used to link to a list of the Ten Commandments of the Philadelphia Leica User Group that I appreciated, I guess it's gone now.

Today I got a Focomat 2a enlarger with two Leitz lenses for $100. It's going to make a nice addition to my little darkroom.

If missed bargains count, yesterday I called too late on a Mamiya ZD (yes, a 22mp MF digital with a 645 sensor) that was for sale for $250. The guys who had it had no idea what it was. Someone out there must be laughing their ass off right now. There's one on ebay for $4000. It's been nagging me ever since, so now I'll be checking the Danish 2nd hand site obsessively to avoid missed opportunities. The Focomat relieved some of the stress, though.

Wow, you're right. I don't exactly need it but there are lots of things that could potentially come in handy. On my way home from work, too - easy pick up for me. Thanks for pointing it out.

WOWzers! that is never ever going to be beat as the BEST bargain find of all time hah.

You plan to sell one of those bodies and give her some money? :) I guess you dont have to, but i'd feel too guilty knowing her husband spent and collected a fortune of leica and she just gave it all away heh.

Anyway, you sir, are the luckiest man alive . . .

Well, RF_Newbie...
I guess you will need some film to run those beauties!! :p:p:p
Can you list what "M"s are in there.. M2's and M3's mostly?... But, also different versions?

It would just be interesting what he had in his collection.... They look in really great shape as far as top plate condition...

The ultimate deal was a Summarit-M hood which the dealer gave me for nothing, although I'd already bought the lens a week before (the hood normally costs as much as a decent digicam). I can't use it at the moment because the damn filter is stuck...
