What's Your "Desert Island" Camera?

How about chemicals and total darkness? It may be easier to have a coconut milk powered generator, computer, and to use digital. 😀

Okay, let's make it fair. Say one camera, one lens, no accessories. The Professor can recharge your batteries with a couple of coconuts and a hula girl.

R9 with a wide-range zoom lens. I might find a digi-back washes up !

If the battery charging kit packs up, then an M3 with a 90 f2.8 elmarit, - I can photograph the girl and her coconuts !

Rover is right. B&H won't ship chemicals, and Adorama charges would be prohibitively expensive to desert island in the middle of the pacific. At least you can store energy in coconut batteries from the bamboo exercise cycle/generator and solar and power your laptop to look at the pics there. Film vs Digital is not really negotiable in this scenario. Besides - any stocks of fiber based paper you might have might be re-purposed for where the sun doesn't shine instead of the traditional dark room.

Thank you all. This is wacky. I'll go with Ginger and then who cares what camera I've got.

I would take my Robot Star spring motor camera with Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 1:1.9 / 40mm lens....and Ginger of course could recharge any mans batteries.

My XPan, and a couple of rechargable batteries with a solar charger plus loads of film.

I wish there was a fully mechanical XPan.

Back in the late '60s when I was in the military (armored cavalry) I had a MIOJ Leotax (Leica copy) that I hauled around in the desert for several years. Took great pictures-no batteries, worked under the nastiest conditions. I think I would go with that camera and figure on processing after rescue.

I hate to mix '60's TV shows, but since I'm from the '60's, here goes:
Fred Flintstone's Polarock camera would probably be best, since flat rocks and
little birds with berets are prolly easier to find on a desert island than photo film,
paper and chemicals.
In younger days I would have chosen Ginger, but now I'd rather have Maryann
as my "assistant"...

Excelsior, you fathead!

Which model of the satellite phones come with a built in camera? 🙂
