Did you say Nippon Kogaku
They lost money on the whole re-issue run, almost 10,000 S3 cameras and the mentioned 2500 SP cameras. It wasn't a sound financial move at all, they did it to reclaim some of their old glory. Had they made more, they would have lost even more money! It's a shame Nikon didn't make more of the SP 2005. Couldn't they have made more, still made some money on them, and given us little guys a crack at them? Instead they obviously were intent on creating a collectible rather .... what does it matter?
You'll be surprised at the actual number of people using these things, in addition to this message board, I know of at least 10 other message boards in different languages, full of Nut-sos that use these things, posting pictures and messages... True that there are people that keep them in the box too.
What does it matter?
You can grab a nice S3 and lens for under $1500....BUT NO, the little man has to have the SP with the 1.8

I prefer the S2 for actual use. For this camera I have diopters for the eyepiece, +0,5. Maybe diopters for the SP or S3 exist, but I've never seen them. Without diopters, I cannot use M-Leicas or Nikon Rfs.

Original diopters exist for the SP, but they are extremely rare and priced accordingly. It is, however, possible to easily modify diopters for the Nikon EM to fit on an SP. Not sure about the S3.

Strange that there is no literature about the diopters. Bob R. does not mention them in his books.
The diopters of the S2 are clicked on the oculair, not screwed in as on M-Leicas. I am always afraid to loose them. I've added some soft glue, but they can come off easily.

Is there any mention of the S2 diopters in Bob R.'s book?

Mostly the 2.8 cm with a Leitz bright line finder .
I have had quite a few sp and s3 over the last 30 years , there wasn't
The bond like with the s2 , it is a simple camera that is second nature now .
The other Nikon's were just cameras .

...here is a link to an adapter for the S2 that allows the use of Leica M diopters on the S2.

Also, I have an Nikon EM diopter that I filed down to fit my SP, cost was $5-10 @ KEH dependent on grade of EM diopter you choose.

No. I have two original S2 diopters wich I bought from Bob R. about ten years ago. He was working on his big book by then. I remember he said not to cover the diopters, the flash units and the cassettes in his book. About the diopters and the cassettes I think it is a pity that he didn't, because they are very interesting items.
I have two early Nikon cassettes. They are different from each other and are very different from the later F-cassettes.

I had a SP for awhile an liked having all the viewfinders but, since I mostly shoot with a 35mm lens the S3 is better for me. I have had the vintage model but now I shoot with a Limited Edition Black. I love the large 1:1 viewfinder for the 35mm lens. - Jim

The minute my black re-issued S3 arrived, I slapped a lens on it and started using it. I never considered even for a second, hiding it away for a rainy day.
And if I can find a black SP (vintage or re-issue) at a price I can afford, I'll use it as well.

With just a little bit of filing, the cheap and available eyepiece diopters for the Nikon EM, and a few other SLR's, fit and work perfectly with the SP, including the wide angle window.

I had two SP`s with Titanium shutters, traded them for a leica original MP # 302.
When that MP started to reach astroniomical values, I traded that for a racing car. (Renault 5 Turbo 2- middle engine pocket rocket) I totalled that racing car on a track, so Now I just stick to leica M4-p rapidwinder and a tuned M3 double stroke "full metal jacket"
No Nikon rangefinders...

D'oh!
Odd way to structure a poll. Early cameras have black editions combined, but they are broken out in limited editions. DO you work for Gallup?
