I use PS CS6 and work kinda the way I would if I were processing negatives and printing in a wet darkroom. I expose and process the image to compliment the final print if that makes any sense.
I have both LR and silver efex but prefer CS6. For me it's personal preference. I know many that love LR. I have just worked in PS for so long it's just more intuitive for me.

Years ago I took a couple of photoshop workshops and glad I did. I have trouble following some of the on line stuff.
IIRC the hardest part for me was understanding the tools and exactly what they did. Once I had a slight grip on that it was just using them and the more I used them the better I got at it.
Now it's just like it was when I went into the darkroom without the enlarger, dev. stop bath and fixer.

I normally use Photoshop CC but for the Monochrom I like to use Lightroom as well. The printing module is quite practical in Lightroom
If you are a beginner in postprocessing I can unreservedly recommend to get the Scott Kelby book for the software of your choice. For more advanced users there are fine books by Martin Evening.
I would advise to be very careful using Silver Efex. It is all to easy to over process the file with rather nasty results (although it may look OK on screen)
A good monitor is essential for the Monochrom as the greyscale values it produces are beyond the capacity of virtually all consumer grade screens. Apple monitors especially the Retina ones are particularly unsuited. You really need a Nec Spectraview or Eizo GC to be able to see what you are doing.
And don’t touch the Clarity slider !!!!.
Be very, very careful with sharpening!

Hi Jaap,
I am curious to know the reason behind your suggestion to avoid use of the Clarity slider.
My mind wanders to thoughts of the feature's edge detection algorithm having been optimized for a Bayer filter. Just a notion...
The results I continue to see online from the MM have me seriously considering owning one. It appears to be a unique tool, and one well-suited to my interests. But can I give up Tri-X?
