What's your main interest here?

I came hear out of curiosity since I owned a couple of Leica M cameras. I have been photographing for lot of years but I was interested in some of the treads and learned a lot about Leica M and LTM cameras from really knowledgeable people here. I most enjoy the gallery and sharing of comments about photographs that are downloaded here each week. It's been a great experience. Jim
 
I like seeing the "Show off your M" threads and almost orgasmic joy people have talking about their gear.

Most of the photos are lame, which is really funny considering how anal everyone seems to be about their expensive gear. I find this endlessly entertaining, like reality TV.

Once in a while I have a legitimate question about a filter thread size or if there are any new developments in the state-of-the-art of camera straps?

The bag threads are like porn to me, that people can have so many bags seems like sign of mental illness.

One of the things I like the most about RFF, is none of us -in general- have bad words to qualify people posting boring, weak and repetitive photographs.

My main interest is film photography (RF, SLR, TLR, AF, scale focus), the gear, the process, the processing, the images, and the like-minded folks here.

What brought me here was the info (I was new to RF).

What keeps me here is the people.

This is one of the most helpful and friendly forums yet. I mean, Frank's "most photos are lame" is just about as bad as it gets here. Try some digital forums, where newcomers will be immediately and indiscriminatedly flamed for asking "dumb" questions.

That's how I prioritize what I like on RFF. I think RFF is a unique collection of smart *and* passionate people who for the most part, choose to bite their tongue rather than being rude. A few people here (from around the world, imagine that!) seem to always echo what I thought about almost any topics and I always look forward to reading their responses. And a few others who are almost always on the opposite side, but still interesting nonetheless.

The gears, this forum made me a big fan of rangefinder cameras and the styles of photography that it specializes in (read: anything people). Completing the Little Oly project with some of you here was especially rewarding for me. The digital RF sub-forums almost always give me a headache whenever I visit it. So I tend to stay away.

I like the non-RF sections just as much, to me it shows the balance and the fun variety that makes us closer (can relate more) to each other than when we're being exclusive. Having a 50 pages thread on Leica is no surprise, but 50 pages (and growing) on Olympus OM *SLR*, that's RFF :)

Film is also a big part of me being here a lot, I love to see people's eyes discover film photography for the first time in this digital age.

The photos. Some of the photos (and the mindset that created those) posted here and on the Gallery, just blow my mind. Strangely, given his comment above, I've yet to see one like that from Frank (I mean the one with Version Two, not the moderator). :)

That is the prime reason for me since I'm way too old to put up with the flaming bs. There may be many gallery photos that I may not care for but they are done by people who like photography and are trying to learn. I appreciate the fact that negative comments are not common here because they often serve only to discourage people. Here we learn from seeing good photography side by side with our more pedestrian efforts.

The other reasons I'm here? I love old cameras especially old RFers the reasons for which are way too complex as well as unbelievably boring, I suppose. The other reason is that I want to create photographic images. I learn from others here about classic cameras and lenses and occasionally I can contribute a little. I also get feedback from others with far more talent than I have regarding photos.

My disappointments are few and not worth mentioning.

RFF has to be my favourite forum out of all the ones I follow. I love looking through everyones photos (W/NW, the Salon) and contributing my own, getting feedback that's constructive. I love reading people's posts in the general discussion forums, seeing everyones opinions in the philosophy forums! I think what surprises me most, what really draws me here is that you guys are sort of like a family. People really open up here, let each other into your lives, it's like an actual community.

Ontop of that, everyone here is extremely nice. Criticism is constructive, not snarky, rude, and condescending. Everybody here seems to have a nice sense of humor, everyone has good advice and knowledge that they're willing to share!

Oh, also, the classifieds are pretty handy!
 
I think I first started hanging out here to find out more about FSU gear. My interests have changed a little bit since then but I still am happy to find such a large group of knowledgeable and friendly people to learn from.
The fact that they are NOT all like me is one of the best things about this place.
