What's your most frequently used PAPER size?

Ilford smooth pearl + gold silk @ 5x7 and a4 at around 9x12ish. I hate cropping 3:2 images from 5d, so I leave a border round the print. Trim later if I need to.

Oh that's an easy question: 11x14 inch wet prints. I have hundreds of unmounted prints in a big stack here, and books, and mounted and matted prints. Most everything I print (except digital prints) is 11x14. Once in a while I print 7x11 inches, but that is just when I cut the 11x14 in half to give a print away. My next favorite is 5x7, cause I like the little books it makes.

When I print digital, I usually print as large as I can. 13x19 usually. But I don't print that much digital.

I have a slightly silly question here seeing that I know nothing about printing, but seeing all these odd ratios I'm thinking, you guys must be cropping your images everytime you print ?
I mean 11*14 or 5*7 for example, those don't correspond to anything, not 35mm (3:2), not 6x6, not 6x7...

Those are paper sizes and not necessarily image size on the paper and don't forget that when you leave a border it is entirely possible for the paper size to be perfect for a 3:2 aspect image.
So on 12x16 paper printing an 8x12 image fits perfectly with a 2 inch border.
And a 6x4 image on 5x7 leaves a nice half inch border. So what may seem like odd paper sizes often aren't. But sometimes they are. But then again a 5x4 neg printed on 20x24 with a 2 inch border gives a 20x16 image which is perfect.
20x16 paper is awkward. But then again maybe it isn't as it will print a 5x4 neg without a border or 6x4.5 with a 2 inch border.

And the 11x14 is great for portraits which look good in 4:3 aspect ratio which means that with a 1 inch border you have a 12x9 image which is 4:3. And 10x8 is good for 4:3 ratio image size with a 1 inch border.

And they used to make 11x14 cameras and they still make 5x7 cameras and 20x24 cameras and 10x8 cameras if you want prints without borders and no paper wastage. 😉

It's those digital paper sizes which are odd and just not designed for any standard photographic aspect ratios. But then its so easy to crop or stretch images digitally that I guess it really doesn't matter too much.

I print 8x10, primarily to get 8x8 prints from medium format. I'd be happy using 5x7 more often, but my tendency to underexpose and to shoot dark places makes it difficult to make small prints with my Beseler 23C. Can anyone offer any advice about making small, dark prints? Thanks.

get a sheet of Lee neutral density (ND) lighting filter. You can cut it to size and place in enlarger to reduce light output. Comes in 0.3 lodD which is one stop reduction but you can use as many layers as you like. Place above the neg/ lens as its not optically good enough to use below the lens.

And/or use a longer focal length enlarging lens.

5x7 wet print, as it's the cheapest I can get locally. In fact I only have two sizes of paper at this time, 5x7 and 8x10, though I have about 3 types between the two sizes. I finally have a 4x5 enlarger setup, and have trays up to 11x14.

Of course when shooting 8x10, I have no choice but to use 8x10 paper... 😀

With digital I've been mainly using 8.5x11 for proof sheets for a project, but also use 4x6 on rare occasions.

On digital, I can only do 8.5x11 on my old R340 which still cranks out surprisingly cool non-neutral monochromes.

A4 wet print. Best match for 35mm and it gives a bit extra over 8x10. Also, it fits more easy into binders / sleeves etc.
For medium and large format, I use mostly 8x10.
The prints I really like, I do on 30x40 cm (or 12x16"" ).

While I shoot more digital than film, I print more film than digital.

If I have a photo worth printing, I'll usually print it at 11x14, although I've discovered that photo books can be a nice way to print as well and they don't take up as much wall space. I should mention that I don't do wet prints, only digital.

For repro: 8x10

For exhibition: 12x16

For colour: haven't done an exhibition print in ages -- in fact I need a new printer -- so 10x15cm/4x6 inch for happy snaps but I may do some more A3 exhibition prints when I get another good printer. Any recommendations? Is it the Epson 2880?

I'm not certain of the percentages but most used would be 5x7 and 8x10...I have some 11x14 but its rare when I've used it..and that's wet printing...

I forgot I answered this question...and I was ready to say the exact same as I did in 2011...
