When does your Leica go with you?

I notice many RFFers have a variety of cameras, including digital and slrs. Just out of curiosity, when do you grab your Leica? Is it used for 'everything' or specific shoots?
Has it pushed your other cameras to the shelf?

I try to give all my cameras the time they deserve. My Leica does well at night, and when I am with a group of people. I also like to take it into the studio as a second camera, or to record a set-up.

I hardly ever use my digital.... only time I do is for visual effects projects. Even then it doesnt find much use to be honest.

Though not a leica, my ZI RF goes with me everywhere, though. Class, grocery store, walking around. ANytime I leave the house I have it with me.

My yashica-mat goes out wtih me whenever i have film about. lately that hasnt been very often. Though I'm about to order a brick or so of 120 film so... hopefully that'll change.

Lately I've been putting an M2 + 50mm collapsible elmar in my laptop bag. It goes pretty much everywhere I go, but I'm still about 10 frames short of finishing the roll of film I started in January. It's just too cold or too wet, or I don't have the time to find something interesting.

A Barnack+50 elmar is always with me in it's thin, easy-to-drag-along-case. For days – weeks sometimes – nothing, but every now and then it's right there for the unexpected when I least expect it.

I have a crumpler 4 million dollar bag that goes everywhere with me, holding my MP and my 35 and 50 luxes; I use my elmar until the light beckons the summiluxes. My daughter tells me it is a murse....so be it🙂

For a paying job I would likely use digital. I try to carry my Leicas around with me everywhere, otherwise.

I tend to trade-off several cameras, with whichever one is by the door going out nearly as often as I do. Lately, that's been the IIIf or the M3. The second tier tends to switch between the Vitessa, the Agfa Record III, the MAT-124, or the Canon 1v.

As far as I've been able to tell, the selection of a particular camera is based on many things:
weight, capability, focal length, etc. But the two most important factors seem to be how long I've had that particular combination, and when I last used it.

Always

Always

Like stated above, there is no reason not to. I never leave home without a camera. I don't carry my Nikon DSLRs for everyday use, but when I walk out my door, whether walking the dog, my grandkids, or even going to the store or out to dinner, one of my Leicas is with me. Not always the same Leica/lens, but always one of them with me.
I may not use it every time, but if I need it, I have it with me.

Special occasions and mood

Special occasions and mood

I carry and use a DSLR every day for the last 3 years. Recently, since August it's been my Nikon D1H and manual focusing AI lenses.

I use my M5 and 50mm Summilux for special occasions as I know I will get the shot.

Every day, everywhere.

Since I own 3 Ms with many, many lenses, it's a daily mood thing. Some days I feel like 35, another day like 90 and so on. It's fun.

I TRY to take it everywhere, but the wife gives me strange looks - and I sometimes feel ridiculous lugging around a camera - like one of THOSE camera geeks 😉.

The D-Lux 3 goes inside my laptop bag, so there's always a camera handy and the M5 sits in the front seat of the car with me.

The rest of the gear sits in a bag in the trunk.

Everywhere except for work. I mainly use my D50 for stupid dicking-around-at-home stuff and I was using my Electro GT when my M6 was being fixed. I also have an F100 and I do use that sometimes, but only those times where I'm specifically going out to shoot AND I feel like I need autofocus/auto exposure and/or my 50/1.4 (my only M lens is a Zeiss 35/2). But whenever else I leave the house I have my M6 and Biogon with me.
